XM for the Monsoon
I have a 2000 with the Monsoon and the 12 disc changer. I don't want to FM Modulate the XM radio, so how can I go about adding XM? Is there a way I can use the AUX on the Monsoon to splice in RCA jacks to get better sound quality than FM modulation?

Yes there is an adapter available to use the CD Changer connector as RCAs. P.I.E. and PAC both make it. P.I.E. also makes an adapter that converts Pioneers IP-Bus to RCAs as well. Then you can get Pioneer's XM unit and wire it into your headunit. On-line the two cables will run about $110 together (give or take). Local places may charge as much as $200. Its a bit pricey, thats why I haven't gotten them yet. I just have my Pioneer XM unit hooked up through a FM modulator.

You need to find a empty location in the radio frequency range. Otherwise you'll get static and noise from other stations. It took me a while, but I found one that is clear. Another downside to FM modulation is that not all of the frequencies in a song as transmitted (the upper end of the highs and the lower end of the lows get cut off). In short, its like comparing a FM Radio station to a CD. If I can find the cables cheap, I'm going for it. Otherwise, I'll live with FM modulation.

It appears to be a pass-through connection. You can get more information in the threads I linked to in my previous post.

Okay, thanks.
I'm really trying to avoid putting an aftermarket headunit in my car that would probably get stolen. I am trying to make the best of the stock radio since it probably won't get stolen.
If anyone else has any info, please post up.

There is also another way. If you have a cassette player you can use a cassette adapter, and receive the XM signal through your cassette player.

However you hook it up, don't use the wireless fm modulator. A friend of mine has the Roady w/wireless fm mod., sounds like s**t.

I hear that. I had XM in my Jeep Wrangler, going through an aftermarket headunit (Pioneer) through the IP bus and it sounded great. That is pretty much my benchmark, and I won't accept anything short of it. Well, since it's in a car now instead of an open air Jeep, it should sound better.

www.circuitcity.com has a unit called "The XM Commander" (on sale for $135). It comes with everything you need to hook it up to a factory radio. Since it's a GM, you might need the two euro antenna adapters. I just bought a 04 350Z, and I think thats the way I'm going to go.

I wonder what antenna that unit uses?
What are the euro antenna adapters?
I like how small that unit is. I want something I can hide in the console.

Euro adapter for GM cars.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-XSIirot...h=euro+adapter
This unit comes with the micro antenna. You can actually wire it inside your car as long it has a clear view of the sky. Mine in my Z28 was velcroed to the rear deck inside the car, worked perfect.

GM has very small ends on there antennas, the adapters are so you can connect the fm modulator(has the large antenna ends) between the radio and the antenna.

If you go with The XM Commander, you will need the two types of euro adapters for the fm modulator. Circuit City has them.
Just as a reference look at part # GM-30

BestBuy (probably CircuitCity too) carries adapters to convert from GM's small connector to the aftermarket large connector and back.

The "small end" looks like the connectors on the XM Antenna unless you mean this one:
