New LS1 Owners - Newbie Tech - screwed up and i need help

so im a big mustang/ ford guy but i traded my fox for a 98 ws6 (have always loved them, grew up with them) when i first bought the car the front pump went out in my transmission so i went ahead and got a 3000 converter and the better clutches and stuff put in it, well i was testing out my new converter and basically i just screwed up and ended up scratching my front bumper up and bending a rim and an axle, the question i have is what i should do about my bent axle, the car is my dd and i only have like 700 in the bank right now should i buy a set of aftermarket axles? i also have a set of 390 gears at home in the box for the 7.625.

find a set of stock axles

You can find good used complete rear ends for a few hundred dollars. Look on ebay for a replacement used rim.

Hit up the local boneyards.

$300.00 or less will get you a complete 10 bolt.

I had some bad bearings that took a shaft out in mine, I just bought a couple of new axles from summit I think they were 109.00 each much cheaper and stronger then stock axles, I also splurged and put on a 10 bolt trick flow cover in it, I did all the pinion and carrier bearings while I was there. I have $400 into it with doing the labor myself. If I get a season outa it I think it will be money well spent.

First off, buy a new rim..

Second if your axle housing is not cracked or broken then all you have to do is replace the axle shaft.. It's pretty easy just remove the rear cover and drain it.. remove the u clamp and theres a c clip holding the axle shaft in.. push the axle inward and the clip should come right out.. then pull the axle out..

I hit a curb and cracked my rim and bent my axle shaft too... I would try craigslist and see if you can find stock axle shafts for it.. I found a few locally and were 50 bucks each..

I appreciate the information but I've been able to drive my grandpas at for a while, I think I'm just going to put a nine inch under it next month because I'm afraid with my stall gears ect, and a 125 shot I'm going to destroy my rear end at the drag strip

With only $700 in your account I would certainly not be going the 9" route. I'd stop beating on my car until I could afford to fix it when it breaks.

IMO buy a new (used) 10-bolt with the gears you want already in them (probably not as hard as it sounds). Then sell your gears and you're only out $100 or so.

I have a housing in our barn put back and I don't need the car right now I'm going to make it a strictly drag car in the fall and buy a new sonic for a dd, so I'm going to have to do a nine inch anyways so I'll just buy some parts here and there
