Default Checking PTV confusion

I have a feeling I will hear crickets on this one....

Ok, I read a thread about checking PTV clearence with a sold lifter.

My question....How do you use your stock pushrod? If my pushrods are measured with zero lash + .05-.08 pre-load, with a solid lifter, my valves will be pushed open that much reducing the measured clearence.

Does that make sense? Seems to do this right, you need different (Shorter)pushrods?

You are looking for a MINIMUM of .080" on intake, and .100" exhaust, so if you get your measurement in the clay and add your preload of .050-.080" to it that should give you your ptv.....to be safe I'd only add the minimum of .050" to your clay measurement.

If you have an old junk one you can pull it apart and put a gob of rtv in it, put it back together and come back tomorrow and it will be solid

You use an adjustable p-rod checker at 0 lash on base circle of cam. Then you remove it and add desired pre-load.
bingo that is your p-rod length desired.
Sometimes I use 2 size p-rods if the cam is dual lobed. So intake will be different than exhaust.

Interesting! On my last build I noticed that the intake looked like it wanted a .025 longer PR but I thought I was crazy and used the same on both. I will be making some changes to that motor in the next few weeks maybe I will order the longer ones for the intake.
