General Maintenance & Repairs - low coolant light wont go away!!!

Ok real simple radiator is full to the top resivore is full and the thing won't go away there is some gunk on the end of the resivore dip stick so I'm going to flush the system but what about the light? Thoughts and advise welcome

Un plug the sensor. It's about half way down the radiator next to the battery.

I just recently had the same issue with mine.... Just unplug the sensor and keep an eye on your levels and temp gauge like we all do anyway :cool:

Unplug the sensor. Brand new one in my Bird but the light was still coming on.

1 vote here for fixing the sensor. Its there for a reason and saved me when my water pump went bad and was pumping air in to the system.

If you have stuff on the dipstick, you should make sure you don't have an infamous PS cooler leak. That may be contaminating your sensor.

I'm with this guy, there's a good reason that light is coming on and just unplugging a valuable safety (for your engine) switch is not the best idea IMO.

just buy a new sensor and throw it in and if it the light still comes on its a wire. and make sure the coolant is clean so nothing is clogging it. as stated above dont jimmy rig stuff together. there is a reason why they have it. its cheaper and faster to jimmy rig it but its not the right way (if it was a ford i say just unplug the bitch:jest:)

I just had this problem. It turns out the low reserviour sensor was mucked up by oil from the power steering pump.

There is a reason why the sensor is not working. If you have a thermal power steering coooling unit in your radiator plumping, you probably have a leak that is fouling the sensor.

Maybe fix the problem instead like mentioned above. If you do a search there are some write up's about removing the stock power steering cooler setup by bypassing the radiator and installing an external cooler under the radiator.

Do that and flush your system. Buy a new sensor and if the light is still on check the wiring.

I have pulled the old one out, cleaned the sludge off of it and put it back in and it worked, try it, doesnt cost anything...

Most V8's came with coolers inline with the radiator outlet hose. The coolers are notorious for leaking and the high pressure P/S fluid usually migrates to the coolant system. If you have alien-like slime on our coolant dipstick or unexplained low levels of P/S fluid, this is probably happening to you. (When it happens, it can foul the coolant level sensor.)

sooooo I removed it got the non ps cooler rad hose

But then i got a generic cooler and installed it behind the rad cooler fan
so it gets good air flow and with the manual fan switch i can cool it whenever

I functioned as a power steering heater and not a power steeering cooler. Anyway, this is the biggest piece of garbage ever installed on any car....

There is really no reason to need a power steering heater or cooler.

Unless you road race. Then a PS cooler be a good thing.

Glad I found this thread before I simply bought another $40 sensor...

My PS sucks, too. This is still the case after a brand new steering rack was put in a couple years back. Thought it might be the pump but now I wonder...

EDIT: No PS cooler in my 99 Z28. Back to square one.
