Stereo & Electronics - My winter project pretty much done.

This was the main goal behind my very SLOW progressing winter project. Re-do the stereo and install sound deadening.

Had the entire interior stripped out and went to town. Stereo differences went from dual 12's in a SubThump T-Top box to dual (planned) 10's in stealth boxes with dual matching amps and matching speakers and subs with a new headunit.

What I have now:

Alpine MRX-F30 4ch amp
Alpine MRX-M50 mono 500x1 RMS amp @ 2ohm
DoubleDin Mods Driver's side Stealth Box
Infinity Kappa 10"
Infinity Reference 6.5's in the front. (soon to be Bi-amped)
Same Pioneer single DIN DEH-P6600 (I think) :bang: PITA

90 sq/ft (used) FatMat Extreme and about 4 cans of spray foam.
All new wiring, everything is the same brand/size/type and uniform.
New type of "Tape-type" RCA's.
All Stinger connection equipment.

Anyway.. Onto the pics pRon

Didn't really want purple, but I didn't notice the drastically short power cable until everything was back together. Soldered a splice in with some older cable I had.

Went to a single 10 for now. Gonna get another as soon as DD gets the pass side boxes.

Thanks guys.

I wa stunning dual Infinity kappa 12s before and while they hit fine, they just didn't have the definition I needed for Metal. This 10 hits harder than my dual 12s ever did. Granted I was only pushing about 250w to each in 2 ohm, using an older Hifonics amp. The Alpine amps seemed to make the biggest difference. And I probably dropped 25 lbs over the old setup with old amps and that HUGE box.

Man that looks good! I wanted to do the sound deadining when I did my stereo install but thought about it too late. If you like the way one 10" hits wait till you hear two.

^ yeah. That's what I keep hearing. :D this bitch slams but seems like it needs more power at lower levels. It really gets into its groove at higher levels though.

I have two JL 10w3 in my C5 in the corners with a JL HD 750.1 powering them
the second sub will be a nice upgrade!

HOw did you like the ttop box? Did you get rid of it? or want to? lol Your setup looks clean with all that insulation and wrapping you should be rattle free and sound amazing too! good job

Yeah, no rattles yet.

Sill have the T-Top box with the subs still in it (original holes.) if I sold it out of state, the shipping may cost an arm and a leg. It's a great conversation piece, was just time for a change. Wanted something different.

I love the way those subs look! How do they respond to double bass rolls and metal drumming?

^ Once I got it dialed in, it was a night and day difference!! I'm not even kidding, it kicks like you wouldn't believe for a little 10"!!! I gotta get another one!!
:headbang: Metal is pretty much all I listen to.

Was listening to this track once I got it dialed in and it responded AMAZINGLY!! Just got a pesky fuel leak I'm still chasing, so I can't really drive the car much till ti's fixed.

system looks good. Nice and clean too. How much did the sound deadener run you? if you dont mind me asking.

How's the sub holding up? Any issues with it? Also how long did it take to break in?

bayer-z28

The subs now days don't really have a break-in persay. Just run them withing the recommended RMS power range and you'll be fine.

Box is great. The terminals kinda suck though, DD knows this too do well see how the pass side boxes come out. It fits real snug with the amp rack and never moves. Once it's in, you'd better be happy because it's some work to get it back out. Gotta take the amp rack down and mess w your wiring all over again. Real tight fit, but that's good.

What was the spray foam for?

bayer-z28
07-11-2012, 04:59 PM
To help eliminate any "wells" for the sound to bounce around in. Closed cell foam is supposed to be used for sound elimination, and from what I can tell, the spray foam insulation appears to be closed.

If youre ever looking for more deadening, Look into MLV or mass loaded vinyl. Its kinda pricy, but it creates a barrier that makes it hard for sound to penetrate into. I have it in my sonoma, and its like a tomb in there
