Cadillac CTS-V - Tightening the Parking brake ...
05-21-2012, 10:27 PM
Hey V peeps,
My parking brake goes down to the floor & the car still moves so it forces me to keep it in 1st while I am parked.
I don't want to continue to do this as this might cause strain on the clutch/trans.
How difficult is it to tighten up the parking brake?

you gotta take a rear rotor off and spin the gear in on the parking brake until it fits snugly inside the rotor. then it'll stop.

Damn, wish I knew this a week ago ... just had my brakes done. Doesn't seem like too much trouble though!

the biggest pain in the ass (to me, at least), is jacking the car up and taking the wheel off.

hey that is a lil bit of a pain, especially with 6 lugs instead of 5 (lol) but you have to put in the wrench time!

I am assuming you need to do this on BOTH rear wheels? Getting ready to do brakes & rotors on mine so this may prove useful.

Yes on both of them. Adjust the spinner out until they almost make contact. Just remove the brake calipers then the rotor and adjust until they slip on fairly easy with maybe just slight contact. Put them back together and you will be amazed at how well they work. I did mine last week.

How did you guys remove the rear rotors? I couldn't get a solid wrench on the bolts.

Two bolts on the back of the caliper and lift it off. My rotors just slid right off then. I think one side had a torx head screw in the face of the rotor holding the rotor on but it came out easy. I did not have any issues with the bolts.

Took my car in to get an oil change (have to get it done at a certified shop for warranty purposes) and had them tighten the parking brake.
So glad that I did, I now only have to push the brake half way to the floor and no longer do I have to put the car in gear just to keep it from rolling!
Definitely worth taking care of, makes things alot easier!
