Big thanks to don aka Slowhawk Performance for helping me out big time!
Long story short i had a black 99 T/A that was my Daily with a turbocharged Lq4 , stock ported 317 heads and nitrous cam. it ran 10.50's weighing 3860 without me in it. last winter i got T-Boned so i gutted it and bought a donor.
Plan was , lighter , faster , stronger.
It is an 01 SOM Firebird , Ebony cloth manual interior, and a hardtop. I wanted the lightest possible Platform.
Over the winter i built this car in house at Slowhawk , Because i work there.
I worked VERY VERY hard to keep this car my Daily. Its easy to go fast, gutting cars and putting parts in them looking for power and losing drive-ability but that was unacceptable for this car.
I Daily drive this car, 45 miles to work and back everyday 7 days a week. Drive it to the track 115 miles from my house and back, 3.25's and OD are great :)
Slowhawk Performance tune
ls2 402
stock ported heads
Very mild Comp Cam , custom grind spec'd by slowhawk
stock 4l80e with a HD2 shift kit
Tv7401 Garret 71mm turbo
3.25 gears in a Fab 9 midwest chassis rear.
Full 100% stock interior , only added the 6 point wolfe cage.
Car made 680/650 on slowhawks mustang dyno.
weighs 3610 with me in it.

Bad ass
I saw you run this car at Slowhawk! Your car put some serious power through the stock exhaust.. Then you opened the dump! What was it, 150HP restriction? If you remember, we talked a bit about turbos. I own the 87 GN that was put on the dyno.

Love the black hood and headlamp covers! I'm sure it looks real menacing if your looking at it in the rear view mirror. Plus it's pretty damn fast too!

I loved seeing this car in person. Awesome job!
This is a true mid 9 sec car you can drive every day, and with the exhaust setup its tamer than most header/catback cars. You would never know you were about to get destroyed, haha.
60 footing with a 4l80e and a tight converter under boost is not easy either.
Great job all.

Nice Sam...for anyone who hasnt seen the car it's done really neat. Most people just hack away until everything is installed, this car looks like a fair amount of time was put into how everything will last and hold up after a few years.
You removed the AC right? I'm one of the 3% of people who has to have an AC, I'm always sweating like I'm 550 pounds on a hot summer day.

I saw this car yesterday when I brought my car to Slowhawk for a dyno tune. Whisper quiet when running on the stock exhaust. You'd never know it was a monster, but it is. Clean car too! Very nice job man! Oh and a big thanks to Slowhawk for the dyno tune. My car drives 10x better!

nice formula. just goes to show you don't need anything exotic and you don't need to re-invent the wheel to go fast. 144mph is flying that car has way more in it! and it's 3600lbs...
jmho it'll look way better with a 28" tire

Ya my 275/50's are about to start getting low on tread, at least for daily driving so ill probably try a 275/60 just to see how it likes it.

Your car is build in a way others have always tried to mimic and with good cause. Your car is clean, neat, simple, not tacky, not overly done and it doesn’t have any major weak points. The biggest thing is it’s totally streetable.
Don should offer it as a total package kind of like what Hennessey and Lingenfelter. It’ll be called something like “SHP650”…Slowhawk Performance 650. Offer it as a total package, one flat rate and all of the parts and labor are figured in. I know Don’s already doing something of the sort but it’s good marketing and kind of shows you have a service that can be reliably duplicated and it’s offered to the masses (markets itself as something everyone wants and needs).

Or the "9 sec daily driver" package.
I am always trying to convince myself to stay away from the $FI$ world, but this is not helping. :)

Thanks Dieso! But theres alot of work that went into getting this car to do what it does, and how it does it. Unfortunately its not something you can just offer as a "package".....Way to many hours of labor.
Dont get me wrong, in this day and age building a 9 sec car that you could drive daily is seemingly "Simple" in most eyes...... ,Forged motor + Auto+ big turbo+ strong rear + light car = 9's..........
But for some reason, too many find out all to quickly that
A: It's NOT cheap , and
B: It's NOT so "simple".
Slowhawk
06-04-2012, 09:50 PM
For a car like sams with mostly all new parts would be 50-60k to duplicate. More than half that is labor. I would think about 200- 250 hrs to do.
Camaro9969
06-05-2012, 06:09 AM
And 80% of those hours is all Fab work. It's definitely not cheap. By the time you buy all the fittings and adapters you need you will want to shoot someone. What you running for fuel pumps? Twin in tanks?
TrickrTreat
06-05-2012, 07:25 AM
Yup. 2 intank aeromotive 340's with the second one pressure activated.
Like Don said, all new parts would run you up there! I budget built the crap out of this thing!
