Default Oil

noticed a few minor oil puddles in the garage this morning... Oil not low but i did ask a friend about car smoking a lil bit over the weekend in OC... Where do these monster LS motors drip from? I can't find it just yet... any ideas where some of you guys have lost oil from...

Thanx in advance.

It's not a common problem at all around here so there isn't a specific place to check. It should be fairly obvious if you crawl under the car.

Pretty sure if it's leaking oil, it could be from the oilpan gasket or the rear main seal. Most likely the rear main from what I've heard especially if u can't see the leak but it's not very common that these motors leak period.

I think he means lift it and get under it. Even without being lowered you cant crawl under it stock.

My car is too low to really even reach under, I just make ramps out of a couple of staggered 2x10's then throw a jack under it once the jack fits. A lift is even better though if you have access to one.

Check the oil filter... it's a bitch to tighten it without using a filter wrench... which I don't use. Occasionally I'll have to get underneath and tighten the filter some more.

Or stay with reasonably priced filters and use one of these like I do, it locks on to any 3/8" ratchet:

I like the idea of the hex attachment on the K&N filter... I use AMSOIL... Again I just refuse to use a wrench or tool to tighten the filter it's just my personal preference

I've thought about and I just don't see spending the money on a new snout and throttle body for such a small gain... My uncle used a machinist on eBay for both his Vettes and has zero idle issues... For $125 and possible gains I'll take the risk. If I had a larger blower than I'd go for the 90mm

I went to a 90 mm TB and snout when my LS6 TB broke...the peak gains were not much, the HP & TQ just carried better into the higher rpms. I wouldn't really recommend doing it unless you were in a situation like mine when I had to replace the TB anyway.

The front seal is more likely to leak than the rear. I've had two leak from there, they wore a groove in the balancer shaft.

+1 on the k&n especially if headers are present. I ran royal purple before and learned the hard way

I have an oil leak too! Front seal maybe the problem, I can't trace the leak tho. How involved is it to change the front seal?
