Ive looked everywhere and cant find the release date of the new gt500. My dad is in the market for one of those or the zr1 if they do it in the new body style. Any idea when these two may be coming out??? Sorry in advance to hog the v forum but it seems people here are way more helpful than anywhere else. (and usually know a good bit more as well)

I'm confused... Zr1 if they make it in the new body style? Zl1 camaro has been out. Gt500 comes out in late June I've heard

People are already beginning to take delivery of the Gt500s, you could place an order for them like a month or so ago.

They are gonna build as many as people want to buy. It is not going to be a limited production vehicle. ZR1s are a waste of money IMO. If he wants a rare car that'll hold its value buy a Ford GT.

So the shelbys are only built to order? How the hel! does anyone know if thats the car they want without test driving it? If I was buying a car for me i'd be getting the c6 zo6 and throwing a blower on it...he is looking for something more limited as in under a 1000 units. We looked at the yellow jacket the other day cause I've always thought the challenger was the hottest looking throwback. He liked it by looks but its heavy as hell and at 50k its at 470hp. Seems like a no brainer to get the shelby. Vettes just hook much better than the stangs from a get go or at least thats what I observed. As far as the ford gt, its a cool car but in the ferrari territory. He's always driven porsches so an american car is a stretch as is in his book.
PS hows your cobra been treating you?

I think he meant that for 100k, you could get a C6 Z06, put a few bucks into it and basically run with the ZR1, for cheaper. The interior in the ZR1 isn't much better if at all then the Z06.
I'd go Z06 if I had to choose, but the ZR1 is bad ass.

thats what i figured but right out of the box its a retarded car.. throw a cam and pulleys at her and your talking a very serious car.:usa:
with that said.. you can make anything fast with enough pocket change to finance the build.

Nah, dealerships are going to start taking delivery of them, but I assume they're filling the orders they know people want right away. Makes good business sense, as others will see it and want in on the action.
As with typical Ford style, it probly won't be a limited production car. Pay attention on the roads, you'll see just as many Mustangs as you will Honda Civics. It's very true here where I'm at.
If you want a truly limited production car, go find a Merkur XR4-ti or a Ford Sierra Cosworth lol
I guarantee you won't see anyone else with a running one for a long while ;)

No I havent driven one, but I do know for a street car the last thing I wanna have to do is pay $2800 for a set of brake rotors. For the price of a ZR1 you could build an insane C6Z thats whay faster, handles better, and still have money left over.

Ummmm, the rotors will last the life of the vehicle. Do a search. Unless you are 100% track driving the car, you won't have to replace them ever
And the car is totally not a waste of money by any means.

It actually is sort of a waste. While the ZR1 is a sick car, it's more geared towards yuppies who don't really know how to change their own oil, etc. For 68,000 (which is still a ton of money), you get the C6 Z06, and have literally 40k left over. With 40k, you could have a cam installed, a supercharger, and a ZR1 hood, and still have like 22k leftover.
The benefits of a ceramic rotor (which very likely will not last the life of the car), far outweigh the cost increase over a steel rotor.

With the ZR1, you still have a warranty left over. And a lot fewer of GM's LS9 builds go wrong than peoples' aftermarket motor builds.
Name any new car for sale today, and someone could build something up for cheaper. That doesn't make new cars a waste.
To the OP's question, there is no guarantee on when the C7 will come out. And there is certainly no guarantee they will build a ZR1 version of it.
Also, "rare" is a relative term. If they build 3,000 a year, do you consider that rare? What about 300? You look at something like a ZL1 Corvette, and 3 would be less rare. So when talking about vehicle production, rare means different things to different people.
I doubt either a ZR1 or a GT500 is going to increase in value any time soon, if ever.
