Small Block & Big Block Chevy Specific - Will the rods clear the cam

My buddy is building a budget 383 short block and wanted to know if he can run the hyd roller cam below without the small based circle grind.

Parts using:
400 crank
Forged 5.7 Pro Comp I beam rods
Camshaft : Duration at 050 inch Lift
236 int./242 exh.Advertised Duration
288 int./294 exh.Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio
0.520 int./0.540 exh. Lobe Separation 110

So what do you guys think?

I dont remember which cylinders, but on two of them you have to run a shorter rod bolt. Which means you have to get the rods machined for them.

Judging by this ad, you are going to have to have them clearanced if they aren't already.

The problem with your question is that there is no what to know if it will work before you try it. With a normal base circle camshaft, mild lobe lift, and some rod bolts that have small heads like ARP 2000s, you'll have to do minimal work. I've run 3.875" cranks and seen people run 4" cranks with the right parts. At that point you'll be grinding the bottom of the cylinder, rod bolts, rods, pan rail area, and beating on the pan a bit too. Put the pan on with no gasket and rotate it, if it doesn't hit then you'll be alright.

I've heard before that not all 383 strokers required a small based circle cam with certain rods but wasn't sure he would need the small based circle grind.

You need a stroker rod like the scat Pro Comp I beams which offer alot cam clearance and pan rail clearance, I use a lot of the Callies rods which off the same clearance and seem to be very dependable.

There are a lot of cheap kits out there that offer non stroker rods so becarefull
