Default Yet Another New GTO Owner

There is a lot of New GTO Owners here so I figured I'd post mine as well. I picked it up last Friday and have been having a blast. Anyways, it's an '06 Torrid Red, 6spd w/ Black Interior.

It has JBA Headers/Mids, Super 40's, Volant, Tune, Catch Can, Koni's, TSW 18's and I think it was lowered, not sure on what springs though. It also has a ridiculous system w/ 3 Subs and a DVD player, not sure if I'll keep it though it's pretty heavy.

I'm headed to the Track tomorrow, probably going to run a shitty time w/ street tires and the subs in the trunk, but it'll still be fun.

Thanks for looking,
-Tim

What did you do to lighten it up? I don't even want to know how much this thing weighs, luckily I'm only 140lbs so I have that going for me, haha.

Well it weights 3700 some from factory lol!! Its a ton really, but I took out back seats, the spare tire with jack, oil pan cover, A/C compressor, I got a light weight racing battery from lingenfelter, changed all tires to light weight racing wheels skinnies and M/T on back. Fiber glass hood and panels in front. Added up to 250-280lbs weight loss. Helped out a lot.

Goat looks great OP, very clean.
Maybe you can just take the stereo stuff out when you go to the track and re-install it.
Enjoy!

Thanks!

I'll probably take the subs out once I get some Drag radials and front runners.

I'm just looking to have a good time tonight, I'm still getting used to the car.

Thanks guys.

I made it to the track tonight, not thrilled with my times but I'm still learning the car and just wanted to get a feel for it. I only got two runs in, my best was 13.8 @ 100, 2.20 60ft. I know the car is much faster than that, I wasn't really pushing it that hard. This is the sub box I was talking about.

Next time, it's coming out and hopefully I'll have some drag radials and skinny's up front. I don't know if my welds will fit or not, I haven't had a chance to try yet.

Stock in my 04 a4 was 13.7 with a little traction issues, and the autos are a little faster than the stick cars, so your 13.8 is a great time for your first time out!

I might even leave that big box in there to help out traction.

Look under the black plastic panels under the back of the car and see if the tow package is still on it...if it is, un bolt all that stuff, take the big skid plate out from under the front, gas tank brace (little 30lb rollcage for the gas tank that you don't need) and the weight of the speaker box will be more than off set.....if you like the stereo....all I'm have left in mine is a head unit and door speakers, but they might end up coming out

Thanks, I still think I could have done better though.

Haha, that's what I was thinking until I get some DR's.

I had the car re-tuned by Slowhawk yesterday. It made 372hp, 361ft/lbs after he finished tuning it. I'm very happy w/ the results.

Nice! You would gain a few more ponies by going with some LT's, but 372 is a good number. Porting the OEM intake would help some. If it was ME, I didn't buy the car for sound, and I enjoy the factory sound. I would remove those subs. On my car, I removed a good amount of weight, without it being obvious. Spare tire and trunk tools are about 50lbs, Fuel tank brace is about 25-30 lbs, V-brace (for towing lol), is about 15-20lbs, the factory skid plate, about 10-15lbs, switching to lighter muffler's (not sure, but it's a decent amount), removing the OEM resonator and replacing with x-pipe (probably 5-10 lbs), weight saved through LT's and no cat's (not sure on shorties) is 17-25lbs, I have a lighter DS (11 lbs), and I removed the front crash bar, which is 20 lbs. For the track, removing the rear seats is only 2 bolt's, and the pass. seat is only 4 bolt's, which is another 100 lbs. All of that, and I'm guessing my car is in the 3500 range, which is pretty good, to still look OEM, ride good, have power, and A/C. There are a few other places to lose weight, but it starts becoming a little hardcore.

Yeah, I plan on putting it on a diet eventually. It's still plenty of car for me, right now. It does have an x-pipe in place of the resonator and has a BMR lightweight skid plate. I also took the v-brace off the other day.

I'm starting to like having a "system" but I'm planning on downgrading to 1 sub eventually. That way I can just take it out when I go to the track.

Car looks good. Just put on long tube to offset the weight of the speakers! Win/win!
