It's been a while since I posted anything on the site. Other hobbies have been the focus of funding.
However, it's summer and my friends are all starting to play with cars again too.

I'm not going to jump into anything crazy. My '08 has 109k on the clock (daily driver) and it needs some updating. I would like to get it back to where it was when I bought it, or better.

1. Tire sensors - has anyone had to replace these? found a cheaper alternative?
2. Tires - This thing eats front tires. Do any of you experience this? They wear normal, just quickly. I found a set of 60k mile tires that last much longer, but still.
3. Shocks - My right rear bottoms out way too easy and sounds awful when it does. Might be time for a replacement / upgrade.

The car is still extremely tight the miles are all highway / interstate. DoD is important because the miles are all interstate and it makes a huge difference on fuel.

Thanks in advance any suggestions.

For tire sensors use rockauto.com 30 bucks. A fwd v8 will always eat tires lol. And kyb struts seem to be the cheapest upgrade. I care....lol

I have them up front and they were great until about 60-70% tread life. Then they provided little to no traction. I did kill a pair in 1 year but besides the point. Once they start to wear, Theyre worthless. Im at about 30-40% on them now and they hydroplane all the time and abs kicks in in wet conditions.
IMO junk tire for the GXP/LS4 unless you like 1/3 throttle :burn: and 2.5 60 ft's

Haha, thanks guys.
My first set I put on were the kuhmos. they did great. I got them in the winter and they were fantastic. I put a ton of miles on the car but they lasted the longest.

I actually got a brand new set of goodyear eagle supercars and they lasted 2 months.

How about shocks though? I thought they were McPhearson on it originally. Now is good chance to upgrade.

Mcphearson is a style not a brand. Use kyb if your money conscious. Bilsteins if your rich.

Are bilsteins factory?

For the gxps they are. The factory imps my cost are like 300 each. For factory junk. The kybs can be had for 300 for all 4.

Hankook v12s all the way:)
My tires have over 30k on them and are in need or replacements.
They still hook great! (except in snow)
Not bad for a max summer tire.

Thanks Dave.
My problem is I'm putting about 30k a year on the car. Given, it's 75% interstate / highway. Snow is a factor also.
I had the ventus v4s that were on the car when i bought it. They were good tires as well.

You can get the tpm sensors off amazon for $30 with free shipping.

30k per year? wow!
The stock tires would probably be your best then, or something with a hirgher tread wear rating.

Yeah I tylically only get tires that are 50k miles or more rating.
I drive 104 miles a day round trip for work. Then there's all the running around and shennanigans.

http://m.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1395207. Both are good pads. Just follow the bedding procedures.

I once saw a customer who drilled the spare rim and installed all 4 sensors in the spare. They didn't get beat up or broken during a tire change. Happy computer, happy customer.

Stay away from cooper zeon rs3a I currently have those tires and the fronts are bald after 15000 miles.

Panther427
05-29-2012, 04:33 PM
they may be bald but were they good grip wise? they do have that 45k mile warranty

indynotch50
05-29-2012, 04:45 PM
Bald doesn't do much good in the rain.
Typically they won't warranty the tires if you cant maintain them properly (rotate)

whenever I would start from a dig, I could not even launch hard, anything over 1500 rpms launch wise it would just spin, also soft sidewalls granted I do beat on the car, I dont think their is a warranty because I can't rotate.

Oh I was thinkin you had a ss not a gxp. But still you could ask if they will do some sort of pro rated cost on your next set of tires
