Generation IV Internal Engine - Clearance Measuring

getting block back (finally) very soon so i wanted to ask (after a search mind you)

all i have is a dial gauge in .0005 increments, a set of 6" calipers, and 3-4 sets of feeler gauges (lol). plastigauge seems to be out of the question. so.. the question is.. would i be able to do this assembly with the measuring tools i have (accurately)? this is for the budget build i am doing.

Since you dont have all the right tools why dont you want to use plastigauge to check?
I know it is NO WHERE near as accurate but if you use Plastigauge properly it will tell you if you are in the ballpark

actually, question, why would calipers be inaccurate for measuring outside diameter?

well, after a bit of reading it looks like plastigauge can be WAY off even when used correctly

Calipers are not a replacement for a micrometer. too easy to mess up the measurement (i.e twisting, squeezing).

Before i bought a mic and bore gauge I would have my machinist measure the clearances then i would verify them with plasti... it was always right there with the machinist measurements. now i have a dial and mic so no more plasti
