What larger brake setup for the V1 is cheaper?

Worth is relative, not only will they stop better, stay cooler, but they look bad ass! Half the crap I did isnt "worth" it, but put it all together and I have the best car I have ever had, one of the fastest, best handling cars around that still looks sick and carries four people. Then I say....Priceless!!!

Do you have any technical basis for your assessment, or are you just spouting the same comment you've posted before (http://ls1tech.com/forums/16171668-post11.html)?

That's something like what I tell people that question the money I've put into my car... I'm liking the calipers

either way i dont think you can ever view spending money on brakes as not worth it. Are there cheaper ways to do something sure, but that doesnt make other options which improve track braking ability not worth it.

Well since a lap is compromised of accelerating, turning and stopping, and these will increase my ability to do one of those things, Im thinking yes, I will be able to go faster.:guns:

Get them dialed in cuz you need everything you can get
You didn't show up at chuckwalla this year but based on your last trip there your in for a spankin. Lol

Did they bolt right up and used a different rotor?
furbe
05-28-2012, 08:46 PM
I can answer that!
Yes they will bolt up after you drill out the mounting holes in the spindle to 14mm. Use larger mounting bolts from V2 and change rotors. You can use stock V2 rotors if you machine the center hub hole larger and re-drill the bolt pattern (or convert your car to 5x120.

I am just there to have fun and go as fast as me and my car can. I dont really care what everybody else does, there are always cars there that go faster.

What modifications did you have to do to the brake master cylinder to make sure the proportioning stays constant between the front and rear brakes?

I'm just messin with you dude. LoL. Welcome to the challenge! I have run in the first 3 events (sears point was just too dam far away) and i can tell you it's a blast. Wish you could have made it to chuckwalla. So far I have been the only V1 to show up at any of the events so with you there we can really kick some V2 ass! You and i are not in the same class anyways. I'm C1 (showroom stock) and you will be either C2 or C3 depending on which tires you run I guess. Anyway, look forward to meeting you and love your car. Thats one nice piece.
See you saturday.

I can answer this one too!
Since the V2 has the EXACT same rear caliper as the V1 they (GM) must have already figured that out in caliper piston size or something.
So the answer is none.

I did the math a while back and posted over on cadillacforums.
OK, some brake math:
V1 setup: 40 & 44mm pistons, 355mm rotor diameter, pad height ~61mm
V2 setup, 30, 34 & 38mm pistons, 370mm rotor diameter, pad height ~65mm
V1 caliper piston area = 5554.3mm^2
V2 caliper piston area = 5497.8mm^2
The V2 setup will require slightly less pedal movement to generate the same clamping force. (Since the piston area is a wee bit smaller, the master cylinder has to move a little bit less to push enough fluid to make the pistons move a certain distance. Less master cylinder movement = less pedal movement.) The effect should be barely perceptible (if at all), I would think.
V1 rotor effective radius ~157.5mm
V2 rotor effective radius ~163.5mm
The effective radius isn't quite in the center of the pad - it's a bit closer to the outer edge of the rotor. Somewhere there's a formula for the effective radius, but I wasn't able to find it during a quick search, so I just assumed it's 2/3 of the pad height. Close enough for government work. I also assumed the outer edge of the pad is right on the outer edge of the rotor, which isn't quite true, but again, close enough for government work.
End result is a ~2.75% shift in brake bias to the front. That, too, should be barely perceptible. If you assume the effective radius is at the center of the pad height, then that drops to 2.3% shift to the front. The actual number is probably somewhere in between.
So, the 6-pot calipers should work just fine with the V1 master cylinder, and won't throw the car's brake bias all out of whack.

What are the rough time differences between the v1 and v2 in this stock class you are running. Is it something the right driver can overcome or is the gap just massive at most tracks?
furbe

So if they are almost equal, what is to be gained by going V2 caliper? The larger pad surface = more brakeing force? Does the anti lock valve clusterfuck thing ballance the front/rear braking? It would seem that any increase in front braking force would have to be an equal increase in rear braking.

Is it cost effective? No.
Does it make a noticeable difference? Maybe. TBD.
Does it look badass? Yes.

So if they are almost equal, what is to be gained by going V2 caliper?
A pad that's ~50% larger and a rotor that has ~28% more mass in the swept area to absorb heat. Those two factors should make a substantial difference in the ability of the brakes to deal with track abuse, which is my main reason for considering the upgrade. The fact that they look awesome is just gravy. :)
It would seem that any increase in front braking force would have to be an equal increase in rear braking.
A 2-3% change in brake bias is really nothing to worry about, and the ABS shouldn't have any trouble dealing with it. My setup is uninstalled, but the folks who are already running the V2 brakes haven't reported any issues.

Good times! I look forward to seeing you at Willow, I love that there are a bunch of other Vs. It will be fun to have other 4 doors there. Maybe you can help me get faster, it seems you know how to drive! You have a V1 right?

Its hard to compare your times on race tires versus a V2 on street tires but your times are impressive none the less!

What you got for tires Mr. Weymar?
I'm sure it is I who can learn from you at willow. I know you have more than a few laps around that place.
Yes I have a V1, so far the only V1 to show up at most of the events so far.
As far as race tires vs street tires, V1 can use any tire 100+ treadwear (nt-01 in my case)
V2 cars can use any tire 140+ (street tire yes but dam sticky street tire)
This is for the C1 class only.

Hope you get your ride fixed soon was cool meeting you guys today. Come out to buttonwillow next month if you can. We need more V1s in the challenge.
