I have not seen that code, but my purge valve did go bad and cause some idle issues. It was the final thing in a process of elimination which could have caused my issues, and once replaced everything was fine again.
So yes, they do fail.

what kind of idle issues?
I have a 2002 with 61k miles, and the idle with clutch in seems a little rough sometimes, but the rpm gauge is steady at 800.

what kind of idle issues?
I have a 2002 with 61k miles, and the idle with clutch in seems a little rough sometimes, but the rpm gauge is steady at 800.
The idle would hang about 200rpm higher than commanded, and have a ~50rpm surge while doing so. IAC counts were at 0 and the idle was still high and surging. The obvious suspect was a vacuum leak, but the issue would be cleared up instantly with a simple restart of the engine (idle would return to correct speed without surge, and IAC counts would return to normal).
After trying a new IAC and a second EGR valve (not something you'd have to worry about with an '02) the only thing left that could cause an intermittent vacuum leak that could be cleared with a simple key cycle was the EVAP purge valve. I'm not sure why it never tripped a code, but I did this repair many years ago and the problem never returned.
This condition would usually only occur after long highway drives with sustained speeds above 50mph.

Replaced evap solenoid on the driver side of the intake cured the problem I just didn't want to throw parts at it if it was another problem that would reaccur but thanks for the input guys
