Default Project 98 z28

Instead of starting different threads for my 98 z28 I figured Id just make one BIG one. Ill be updating this as I go...

A friend was looking to buy this car so I rode with him to check it out. It was a 98z 104k, auto with a stall, decent body nice paint but the wheels were hidious. The guy was asking 5k. After the test drive and a little haggling a deal was made and they planed to meet the next day to transfer. When the guy went to leave he did a crazy whipper tail on the way out and crashed into a concrete block next to the road. It went through the bumper cover and into the drivers front tire driving it into the cowl and blowing the bags. Needless to say the guy was sick and knew it was probably toast. It was dark outside so I couldnt see how bad the damage was but I knew the motor and trans was fine so I offered the guy $1500 cash.

Here she was in my driveway the next morning. It had a ls6 intake, tci superstreetfighter stall, 373 gears, hooker supercomp headers, offroad Y and a dumped bullet. Thing sounded mean!

I'd hate to be the owner who wrecked it just trying to show off. Good luck with the repairs.

Yeah it definitely got away from him lol. Thanks

The damage really wasnt that bad, the car was definitely salvagable. The k-member was fine along with drivers door alignment. To get it back on the road it needed a minor pull to fix the cowl, new a-arm, sway bar link and front end alignment.

Off to the frame shop for a second opinion and get the cowl pulled.

Thanks! I was really surprised he settled for $1500, I dont think he wanted to fool with it since he only had liability insur.

Here she is on the rack getting pulled before replacing the bent suspension. While at the junk yard getting the a-arm I also found a perfect drivers airbag for $20.

After everything was done I took it to have an alignment.

Then replaced the windshield.

Taking it for that first drive was awesome, right away I could tell it had a big stall and pulled like crazy. I zip tied the bumper together and took it straight to the local 1/8th mile track were it went 8.0 @ 89 on crap tires

Total investment so far - $2800 with the CCW's

Yeah its pretty much junk, the lockup clutch is bad so Im sure the transmission isnt far behind. No telling how long its been that way. I plan on swapping in a 80e or a 6 speed, Im not going to fool with another 60.

The ups man brought me a present....standard bore lq9 block and Comp 234/238 xer cam. Ill probably go ahead and throw the cam in my ls1 and save the block for tax time.

I decided to go ahead and tune it up while I had it off the ground in the garage. The O2 sensors were so froze I had to cut them off and welded in new bungs, I also went ahead and cleaned the maf, recharged the k&n and changed the plugs and wires. Thing is running sweet!

I found a nice GM bumper cover on craigslist since the old one was toast. I also got a fog light and turn signal. The air pump was pretty smashed so I went ahead and deleted it to.

While I was looking for parts I stumbled on a crashed 99 SS about 5 miles from my house, and it was black! I got the hood, spoiler and drivers door since mine was broke by the hinge. Heres a pic of it sitting on the car before work began.....
