Lightbulb Third Gen Camaro LQ4 Swap

So I had this car in high school. A 1992 Z28 Camaro 25th Anniversary black w/ red stripes. Needless to say driving was a blast in high school. 6 months after graduating high school I blew the worn out 350 TPI . Well here I am 5 years later just having graduated college and I have finally started amassing parts to bring the old Z28 back to life.

I have just purchased a complete lift out 6.0 LQ4 (engine, computer, harness, pedal, TAC module) through LKQ w/88,xxx miles, Fbody LS1 oilpan+ windage tray+pickup+new gaskets, new GM clamshell LS mounts, Spohn polyurethane bushings, Spohn LSX adapter plates, 4th Gen F-body fuel tank, 4th gen F-body coolant tank.

I am planning on using and abusing the stock 700r4 until she gives out and will eventually build up a 4l60 or 80e for it.

I work at my family business which is an automotive repair facility specializing in exhaust. I will be getting the Hawksthirdgen long tube headers and using out mandrel bender to build custom exhaust. Hopefully true duals but I am probably just dreaming

I will start to post some pictures tomorrow of the car and what not but for now I am excited as ever to get a start on my ride!!!!!! Engine should be here Friday

In for pics of build. My buddy is working on finishing up his LS1 swap in his 92 convertible. Always interested in seeing other 3rd gen builds.

Lol that poor stock 700r4 is not going to like you for a short period of time.Im sure you already know this but if you plan on doing any upgrades to the motor..now is the perfect time before dropping it in there.Stick a cam in there now and ls6 intake,do the timing chain..oilpump etc.All the lil common things to replace and prolong its life and make some extra power right now will make for a better swap.

Are you going to keep it dbw or go cable throttle.I personally prefer cable.

Good luck on the build.

So here is a list of the parts that I have yet to purchase that I know I need. I am sure I'm missing plenty of things.

-LS1 or LS6 Intake
-LS1 or LS6 Fuel Rails
-LS1 or LS6 Injectors
-Fuel Pump (Not sure what I am going to need here w/ the 4th gen tank that I have)
-LSX Swap Headers from Hawks
-4th gen LS1 accessories (crank pulley, water pump, tensioner, power steering pump + bracket, alternator + bracket, idler pulley, serpentine belt)
-Cam (undecided on what to get)

@RedBull87- I am planning on sticking with the DBW but I am not against looking into DBC if it is easier/cheaper. Also I will be going through the motor doing routine maintenance as well as the cam before I put it in.

Engine is going to be here on Monday now as it is being pulled today and shipped out of Texas.

I am in the process of trying to get some pictures up but I am having trouble figuring out how to get them on here as my file sizes are way too large. I will definitely have some pictures by Monday if not sooner.

welcome to the 3rd gen 6.0l club....i'm just north of you in the sunflower state.

start a photobucket account(it's free) and upload your pictures there...then you can put them in your posts easily.

the build up thread of my 91 z28 is in my signature.

there are a lot of great cams out there...decide how you want to use the car and go from there.

After getting situated in the garage I got the 98-02 clamshells pulled apart and put the new spohn polyurethane bushings in. Then got the old clamshells off of the k-member.

I'm picking up a 89 ws6 formula 350 this weekend, I was actually about to start a thread asking for ideas, are you using the stock k-member or going tubular?

I am using the stock K-member. I will have to notch the middle of it in order for my 4th gen f-body LS1 oil pan to clear. I will also have to notch it in order for the a/c compressor to clear. Honestly I was about to buy the tubular K-member but I couldn't justify the cost (600+ bucks from spohn). That 600 could be put to better use elsewhere.

So you have a 25th anniversary car with a 350 AND ttops?! I wasn't aware any 350 cars came with ttops. The black with red are my favorite 25th cars!

Yeah, im pretty sure they didnt. There were no ttop and 350 cars made after 1990. Prior to that they did offer both, I own one.

The car was bought brand new by a father for his daughters high school graduation gift in 1992. He promplty sent it to Top King in Kansas City and had after market ttops installed.

I want to do the T56 but I am still up in the air as to what I am going to do. Probably run the stock 700r4 until she blows.

Luckily they don't leak from rain. They will leak however if you point the pressure washer where the top of the window seals to the ttopp for too long.

Ahh yes I have heard of that! Very cool! It's good you know the history of the car. Do you have any of it's documentation? That car will be a big collectible in the next 2 decades.

What kind of documentation are you referring to? Service records?
