Default LQ4 or LS1 in car?

I am looking into purchasing an LS or LQ motor...

I am curious if the LQ4 would be any cheaper for my application.

I know the LQ4 is cheaper, but will it still be once I have to swap the intake and oil pan from an fbody, and get a t56?

Or I could go with an ls1 drop out with a t56. They seem to go for about $3500. I think that by the time you did all the stuff to the lq4 to get it to work, the LS1 would be cheaper. Any ideas?

Thanks.

If the 2 choices are similar in cost, you have to decide based on current use
and future plans. The LS1 being all aluminum weighs less and can offer better
transfer for drag/hook and better front end handling/steering. The LQ4 with
its 4 inch bore can make a 402/408 at a later date with a 4" stroker kit.
Stock it has 9.5 comp (vs. 10.19 LS) and works well with boost.

My dad suggested just put in the LS1 now and build a Lq? motor later and swap accessories. Then I could do anything I want.

I like the LS1 now in it's stock form for cost. But Eventually I would like to get 400-403 cubic inches.

Depends. What do you have now? I'm debating driving my ls1 and slowly build an 6.0 and once it's done sell my ls1 to recoup some funds.

It depends, are you trying to hurry up and get the car rolling,or is this something you guys plan to work on for awhile, honest i would just build the motor you want,408 is a great way to go,but there are alot of budget built truck blocks that run great,

Might as well say nothing. Project car. I am trying to do it somewhat affordable.

i think a good swap would be a 6.2 out of a escalade or denali that engine make a good amout of power and should just need the same things as a lq4

I should note this is going into a 79 trans am.

So if I go with a LQ4/lq9, then I need all the fbody accessories. So will it really be any cheaper?

If its going in a 79 trans am i think it would be cool if you did a carb. It would look old school but have the power and reliability of a new motor.

Can be done much cheaper and alot easier to tune. find a junkyard longblock just block and heads and buy your bolt ons. just my .2

I have a slightly different idea of a functional shaker with air box under it....
