March vs. ASP Pulley What's the best pulley? I'm debating between the March and ASP Pulley. Which is the better package? Anybody know the part # on these Pulley's because I want to make sure I order the correct package. In Thunderracing.com it shows me different packages. Which one does everyone go with?

I too am interested in the March. I know that it is a fluid dampened pulley, but I would like to know what material it is made of as well as the percent underdriven.

I know the march pully weighs 11 pounds compared to 10.5 for the stock pully.
The asp is somewere around 6-7.
That should give you your answer right there.
Though i'm still wondering how this SLP pully is performing.

From what I remember, the March pulley is heavier than the ASP by several pounds, but is slighty smaller than the ASP. Despite its weight, because it is a fluid dampened pulley, it should be more efficient than the ASP at dissapating power-robbing and potentially harmful crankshaft vibration.

OK if you compared an equal weight steel pulley to the March, I could understand the worries. March is FLUID dampened and will definitly outperform any solid pulley in that field. It is 25% underdrive.

The place to look for weight savings is not the balancer.
Lets try to do the same job with less mass?
Wonder why the early ones had knock retard issues?
Little to much crank flex going on there?
There is alot to be said for functionality & longevity of the motor verses saving a few pounds of recipitating weight.

I would steer away from the March. It was the pulley used on the 1150hp engine my friend has. To make it short, the timing chain ended up getting bound up due to bad harmonics. Not saying it isn't a good pulley, but it was removed, changed the timing chain, and used an ATI instead. I believe the ATI is prolly the best bet, but ASP is good also for less $$$.

The ATI dampener pulley is superior for harmonically balancing high RPM motors, but it's costly. For a typical street car or car not exceeding normal range RPMs I support the ASP pulley and wouldn't(didn't) pay nearly $500 on a unnecessary pulley.

The ASP pulley weighs less because the center hub is aluminum. That has nothing to do with dampening and harmonics reductions. The outer ring which is mounted on molded rubber between it and the hub is steel for the necessary weight required to eliminate harmonics.
The newer ASP pulleys are also SFI approved.

Alrighty...maybe I'll be buying an ASP instead then. I feel like a ragdoll 
What exactly does the SFI approved mean? My only concern with the ASP is I had read about past problems with false KR being reported due to the pulley. Im guessing this has been solved since so many users are using this pulley without problems.

You are correct...apparently there was a bad batch of Whisper underdrive pullies, and that was quite a long time ago (99). Thanks for setting me straight on that.
