General LSX Automobile Discussion - what happened

so i got on it a little bit first and second gear and when i let off i heard a loud few thumps from right under me like someone took a sledge hammer to my undercarriage and it keeps doing this now if i downshift. any idea what this could be ?

yeah thats what im thinking, i had a problem with my drive shaft hitting the drive shaft safety loop before but i fixed that. might have bent it back i guess . if the Ujoint blew wouldnt it not be able to drive ?

big hitting noises like someones taking a full on swing with a big hammer right under the center console

Could be a failed transmission mount. Had one go bad on me once the tranny hits the top of the tunnel. Is your shift nob moving up and down? If so its the mount.

no shift knob is normal, ive been hearing smaller pops like this every know and then when i shift into gear for like a month

Ah you're probably right then. Was kinda hoping it was an easier fix for you.

Sure hope not try to jack it up tm and look at the u joint

You will be able to tell. If its not u joints make sure tranny mount is on good. Also check torque arm. If thats not it its in the tranny. I think its u joints though.

Yes where it is on the transmission a guy brought one in with a thunking noise i didnt know found out it was loose on the clamshell mount.

Tranny mount or torque arm mount. Could be both. Torque arm mount can look just fine till you take it off and flex with and mess the rubber. If it's bad, you'll see tears, split, most likely hidden as mine were. Although mine made it sound like something was smacking the rear end of the car. A bad tranny mount will make it sound like it's hitting right under the console, which it is.

Sounds like it could be a transmission mount or torque arm mount. You should be able to jack the car up and visually check both mounts and see if there is an issue with them. If it is banging that hard it should be something pretty easy to find. If you run into anything crazy or have any questions you have my number.

Get it fixed before you pop your airbags in your face...
