Graph in post 2
Finally got my car cammed and tuned. Car is a 1998 Formula It took me 2 and a half days to complete the cam swap. It is raining here still so I have not been able to really get on it. Big thanks to Chris(Chrs1313) for all the help with all my questions. Big thanks to Speed Inc for there help getting my parts together for the swap and a great tune. I can drive it at any rpm I did before the cam. Cant wait for the Open house at Speed Inc.
Mods are
Stock bottom end
Mti clear lid
LS6 intake
Si5 Cam 231/237 589/595
Ebay Long tubes
chrs1313 ram air (non a/c version)
PRC .675 Springs
ls6 oil pump
LS2 chain
Very crappy home made Y pipe
Thats it. Still need underdrive pulley and ported tb maybe even step up to
1 7/8 headers. That being said it put down 373rwhp 371rwtq.

Post the graph, seems kinda low for that cam. I searched and most were over 400 rwhp. What rpm did they take it to?

Graph is up. No underdrive pulley or ported tb on it at all. With a crappy home made Y pipe

Did speed say it sounded about right? Did they select the pushrod length?

Yes to both.

Was this an auto, sorry cant see sig on my phone, port that tb (very easy to do ) i dont think your headers are to much of a restriction as the y pipe is, what kind of catback was this threw?

Its a 6sp Yeah I need a better y pipe bad currently it is just pipes bent in a quick muffler shop. Threw open cut out

I agree that this seems low....
I'm looking to get this if not closer to 400 rwhp with a TR224 symmetrical cam.
This may be a stupid question, but is it tuned? Or did you just dyno it to get a baseline after cam'ing it? Either way still good power, just seems like theres some more to be gained.

It was tuned. Yes lots more to be gained with underdrive pulley. ported tb and better y pipe.

Seems good to me with stock 98 heads.

Pre cam numbers where 327hp and 346tq same dyno. So a gain of 46hp and 25 tq.

Seems like a good gain to me comsidering previous numbers and your lack of quality supporting mods. It'll wake up with better supporters.

Number's Are strong......... You people are forgetting it's a 1998....... Junk Head's..... And you never called to get the rocker's done. get some stock 243's and it will rippppppppp. Great numbers bro dont let the b.s on here sway you. And Remember the true hold back is the heads...

Thanks Rob. Yeah I ended up doing rockers at my brother in law work. I will be getting some 243's after finishing up supporting mods

Strong gains from your previous numbers, ever plan to take it to the track?
I wouldn't live and die by dyno numbers

Yeah I will get to track this season for sure. I have to have some people to go with me ( chris cough rob cough ) though never been to a track.

Those are great numbers factoring in all the issues. Put a better flowing exhaust, 243's and a UD pulley and 400hp is easy.

Solid gains. Any pics of the y-pipe setup? I'm just curious.

No pictures I could try to get some later. I took a flowmaster merge and had an exhaust shop just bend pipes to fit it and the headers very sharp bends in some places

When you upgrade, are you getting true duals or just a new Y pipe?
ds98formula
06-02-2012, 06:31 PM
Was thinking about going true duals. As I have off brand headers and do not want to have problems matching to a y pipe

98 heads arent junk...they are well within 2 or 3 rwhp of any other stock ls1 head...that is a myth that the heads are crappy. I made 365hp 364 tq with hotcam and full bolt ons in my old 98 car with stock heads and stock LS1 intake...and an auto.

Does it have stock ls1 intake? There's alot left on the table if not! I bet 20rwhp or so! With just a ud Pully I picked up 8 rwhp! Also I'm pretty sure them eBay headers are only 1 5/8th tube. With pretty much all you mentioned but with my own ported 241s I made 446 rwhp. I bet you will be right around there with that cam once all the other Bolton's are on!
