Ok guys, let me start by saying this is actually on a EFI car, but can never find any info on the 6010 in the EFI section. My friend bought a 6010 to put on his 99' TA so he could adjust the timing, he used the MSD adapter harness so all would be plug and play to the factory harness.

We took it to the track a couple weeks ago and all was fine. Cranked the car up today to put it on the trailer, it ran for a couple minutes, stumbled and died. Cranked back up, stumbled, died and now nothing.

I had power getting to the box via the pink wire which is hooked into the adapter harness. I had a 6010 new on the shelf for my carb mustang project. I put it on the car and it runs fine.

Should one of these boxes go bad that quick?

TIA

I have seen posts where people had to send them back for one reason or the other. MSD products don't have the best of reputations with some people.

I would try hooking the original box back up again. You might have had a loose connector or something simple that got fixed when swapping out the box.

Lucky you had a spare. The rest of us would have spent a week or two troubleshooting the dead one.

Double check your grounds. ALL grounds. When switching boxes you may have bumped the ground and made it work again, (ive done it, lol). Also, MSD recomends grounding all of thier boxes directally to the battery. Best of luck. Eric L

As mentioned, otherwise, i would contact MSD if it is not a issue above, send it back for repair. It happens every now and then.

I picked the car up from a shop that put a roll cage in the car. Looks like they forgot to unhook the battery before welding and fried the box. I called msd and checked everything they said and box is bad.

Well, i have never fried a box welding yet, but it was always exhaust, not a cage, not sure if it matters.

They told me that it was grounded to the chassis is why it would be possible, they offered to replace the box so I assume they know "something" happened lol

Oh, well, they must have experience in frying electronics, LOL.
