Default Milled 243 heads and MS4??

Hey guys,

First off i have a stock 02 ls1 with the MS4 cam, and supporting mods of course.. and i there are some ls2 243 heads for sale locally, but they are milled .03. The seller said they should work, but would get a thicker head gasket to make sure for clearance. Can anyone answer the question? If so all i need a thicker head gasket, any particular brand and size? If so im getting the heads ported and calling it a day.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Yes and no....the thicker head gasket would work, but it's like giving that guy from Florida a 2" non stick bandage for his face that's missing....all you would be doing is making lower compression and getting your quench too large which would promote detonation....if your getting a desk on the heads pick up a set of .040" MLS gaskets, then measure your ptv and have your pistons fly cut to fit the cam. It will cost a little more but will be worth it in the end and will be done right

The head seller is blowing smoke up your grungy. MS4 barely fits on stock setups, yet alone milled heads. Thicker gasket is acceptable in boost applications, but not NA. Do the math. .03+.051= .081 gasket. That alone is enough to light all kinds of warning lights in your head.

Just curious, can your pistons be flycut while in the motor with the motor in the car?

Thanks guys, i just didn't know how much can be milled for it to come into clearance issues. I don't want to fly cut, so looks like im going to get the TSP stage 1 ls6 243 heads.

I just gotta let myself spend 1300 bucks

also look at the TSP 5.3 head ,if you tell them what cam you got they can sink the valves deeper into the valve seats.

That is just a marketing gimmick. Nothing but wrong geometry will result from that. All this is a way to convince novices that their cam is the one to buy. Same BS as putting 2.04 valves on a 2.02 seat and advertising those heads are the bomb.
