Start off with checking the battery terminals, are they loose or corroded. Next test the battery and alternator. Check the connections at the alternator and fuse block under the hood. Hopefully you will find the problem or lead you in the right direction.

yup, check those and also where the main ecm is plugged in. those items loose or bad battery or bad alternator will wreak havoc on the running of your car, basically no correct voltage going to it at all times, computer cant run car correctly and parts cant do their job. let us know

Figure it out yet? Gto's are known to have gremlins, mine had some electrical problems and I had to get a new PCM eventually. Mine was an 06

That sucks man! Yeah mine had serious issues with going into limp mode, cutting off completely, ETC. Finally swapped a new PCM into it and it was fine after that. Not saying that's your issue, but if you could get em to replace it it might be. Does the car have extensive work done to it?

Strange that they can't figure it out. Mine did it with only 8K miles on it

Sounds like its shorting out. Check the wire from the battery to starter and make sure its not burnt from touching your headers

Ok so they couldn't find the short and they gave up on looking for it and told me to come pick up the car

unfortunately just cause its the dealer, doesnt mean they know how to fix it. Might have to make some calls to nearby performance shops maily dealing with GM's or even email.

Ok so they had the car for a little over a week and they can't figure out what was wrong but its not losing power now so they think it was a ground wire and when they were going through the car they fixed it... so the good part is they paid for the rental and I never had to pay for the work either

You can't beat that, hopefully it took care of the problem.
