Cadillac CTS-V - New 5.0 is not even close!

I'm not sure how this fits in for my first post but after reading another thread-
(http://ls1tech.com/forums/cadillac-cts-v/1548658-familiar-sight-some-3.html)
I had to chime in and I didnt want to steal that thread.
I'm running an '06 V with cold air and Corsa exhaust, thats it. My friend and his 5 year newer 5.0 had no chance.
We started out at a roll, I was at idle in first with the clutch out. We left even, as I shifted into second I already pulled more than a fender and before I shifted into 3rd he was tucking in behind me.
Are the ratings on these V's underrated? 400hp/400tq
I raced a SRT-8 Challenger that was even slower. I dont get it.

it could come down to gearing and power delivery across the revband. I haven't seen the dyno graph for a 5.0 but i would assume it likes to rev more and makes the power up top where as the V is a torque monster.

Was it an auto ? Also the 5.0 should be faster than the challenger but not the new ones I heard they were a beast.

The guys that are dangerous are the ones in CRX's.
I have had at least three of these (at different times) try to get me to go for it on the freeway.
One disappeared and I swore I was gonna come up on a wreck.....
I used to pick on Vettes.
If I lost so what?
If they lost, HUMILIATION!
That was the main reason I maggied Mr. Vette.

I've witnessed 5.0's(With Auto Trans and a Tune) run low 12's @ 115. Stock they should easily be right there with a V1.

I got WALKED from a 40 roll by a new 5.0 with "bolt ons". Didn't know the guy and we only chatted for a brief second after he whipped up on me 2 times. First roll he jumped me by 1 1/2 fenders and I was like "WTF that NEVER happens". 2nd race was a full fender and he pulled me at the top of 3rd....Wasn't horrible but I could almost see his taillights.

A tune really wakes the 5.0 up. Bolt ons do a good job at letting the motor breathe too. Stock 5.0s are nothing extraordinary.

I don't see what the big deal is with these new 5.0's. I ran 3 of them so far and i have beaten all of them with my almost stock V1.

A few months back I walked one pretty bad but never posted up about it because I didn't get it on vid and didn't want a Shit storm raining down on my head about the mighty 5.0's and how it would be impossible for me to walk one...

New 5.0's are turds stock but respond well to mods. Still sad that a brand new 5.0 cant beat an 04 V stock to stock. lol

You guys must be racing some non-driving fucks, my brother was door to door with me stock on motor. When he did a tune and axlebacks he put 2-3 cars on me from a 60 roll on motor. I returned the favor with the bottle open.
I have two friends with a tune/intake/drag radial that have gone 11.80s@117-118mph.

i second the above post, i have a new 5.0 and have walked two v's. now the important thing to mention here is the new 5.0 is not setup to roll race at all, its horrible form a roll. but it is however a dig monster once a few simple bolts ons like an x pipe, cai and a tune. for example i raced a nitrous mach1 the other day and from digs i got him every time but from rolls he would crush me. i have a buddy here in flordia who just has x pipe and tune and went 11.8 in the quarter in his 5.0. they are nice cars but they need the tune and then they are like a whole new car. the driver mod helps too tho lol

It was an auto and bone stock. Why does a tune do more for one car over another?

It was an auto and bone stock. Why does a tune do more for one car over another?
Some factory tunes are better for performance than others. A car with a very conservative factory tune will gain more from an aftermarket tune than a car with a more moderate factory tune? Follow?
The factory tune is designed with longevity and parts preservation in mind - typically transmissions. They're also designed to run on 87 octane and not grenade because we all know people are going to use it. An aftermarket tune will usually advance timing to take advantage of higher octane fuels and change shift points and line pressures for more aggressive shifts.

The 5.0's also come stock with 3.31's with optional 3.73's..that auto probably had 3.31's. Like everyone else said, the 5.0 really wakes up with a CAI and tune. Clearly faster than any stock V1.
From a dig, I raced a 5.0 California Edition (3.73's, 5 speed, not tuned) and had him by 1 car at the top of 3rd gear and pulling. I can thank my Headers & Tune for that.

My car is near stock. I've raped two 300 SRT8s. One with exhaust and one that had many more mods like CAI, exhaust, tune, more that I can't recall. Each car I raced multiple times so it was no fluke

^ This. New 5.0s aren't exactly killing everything, but they can put down some serious power, and their gearing is also what helps. They have their 1:1 in 5th, as opposed to 4th.
Sorry dude, but these new 5.0s dyno something like 380, 390...

i havent tuned mine yet but it would only run me about 300. total im paying 500 but thats because im getting my lightning re tuned as well, and my tuner is going to give me the sct calibrator tool for the new mustangs so i can change tunes when i want. all in all it depends really on your tuner and how well you know them lol. and its a dyno tune at first but he will load the tunes onto a handheld so i guess you could call it both.

Agree with most of you on the new 5.0. Ran one at the track with my CAI only, and I got walked. I think it ran a 114 trap the few times I saw/raced it. As far as SRT8s, you got that race all day.
I ran the time in my sig (CAI only) against a header/intake/tune 300 SRT8 and it also ran a 13.1 @ 108.

My brother made 414rwhp/400rwtq with just a tune and cold air intake. Stock midpipe and cats.
I will say its not a car you can get in and drive the shit out of. It's a little awkward with 5th being 1:1 so you really gotta get used to what gear to start out in.

I believe it. Heard X pipe with cat delete will add even more on top of what he's made already.
There's alot of us with headers and small cams in the 410 range. Just an intake and tune for 414 is no laughing matter.
I'm in no way shape or form a ford fan... but I'm also not one to bullshit performance when I see it.

I have a hard time thinking my V could take an 05+ GT let alone a 11+.
I guess I need to find one of each and give it a go.
I have a friend with a bolt on Mach 1 and was going to run him to see where I stand in the food chain. Last time he was home he swung by and popped his hood. He has a D1 pushing 10 Psi now so I don't want any of that lol.

Sorry, I love my V & all, but stock for stock, & 2011 5.0 should hand a V1 it's ass... My car makes 420rwhp, is cammed, tuned, & has full exhaust, & I'm pretty sure just a mildly modded & tuned 2011+ GT would still take it, especially from a dig.

I got a 5.0 last night comming back from work at 4 am. Been waiting to get my chance for a while. I didnt press it he is the one who started acting up reving his sh!t as I was cruising home trying to keep my eyes open. Sux for him I got all the bolt ons including heads/cam. It felt like a young punk with just an exhaust. Dont know if it was manual or auto or what gears he was running, my catless corsa drowned him out. Nothing feels better than wooping on so called sports cars with a 4 door luxury sedan. First true run i've done since the cam and boy does the car open up after 4k rpm. As for the previous statement about being afraid to race an 05 gt, you must be kidding bro that crap barely keeps up with the new v6 stangs, plus they are just fugly. Not arguing the 11' 5.0's have potential but so does an 11' V lol. And guys the weight difference is huge between our v1's and the stangs to begin with we are not even in the same class. They are dessigned to be in the vette class bwahaha what a joke. Oh btw it was a highway pull I dont ever race my car from a dig anymore I learned on the new s4

I am not crazy just looking at 1/4 mile times seems pretty close between 05-10 Gts and V1s The v1s trap a bit higher from what I am seeing but seems pretty close.

I've worked on a couple. The 5.0 is very impressive for a GT motor. That said they really aren't anything special when stacked up next to a modern gm or dodge engine. Yes I've seen a couple with exhaust and a tune and tires go 11s. I've seen far more in the high 13s or 14.0.

Damn me and my lack of reading sarcasm!
Throw a supercharger on the F-body and you'd have a fair fight.
LOL, bring it.
A well driven stock new 5.0 will run a high 12 easy well over 110 mph. Show me a stock 1st. gen V doing that.
You stock 1st. gen guys are beating up on stock new 5.0's, then those guys have no clue how to drive their new Mustangs.

How about a 13.1 @ 111 with only a CAI and a "I'm-afraid-to-break-my-diff-made-of-butter-and-styrofoam" 2.16 60 ft? Don't undersell a stock V1 either.

That'a a great run, but your car isn't stock. And 111 is hardly the norm and you know it. Per your own admissioin, the DA was -997 ft. What did you run bone stock on a normal day?
I'm not underselling stock V's at all. I owned one at one time, I know exactly what they can and can't do. The point is, stock for stock the 5.0 is faster than a v1 V. And you can beat it up all day with a tire and not worry about the diff. breaking. But the V does have 4 doors. I loved my V when I had it. But the new 5.0 motor is sweet.

On a hot day, I ran 108 consistently...a few 109s. I don't disagree with your post. I was just trying to nudge a bit. New 5.0 is definitely a good ride.
