yes assuming both are stock tunes the car should still run fine. the 99 pcm does utilize egr though while the 2001 does not and also this is assuming both pcms are tuned for the same transmission

Watch out for the fuel injectors...'99-00 had 26# whereas '01 had 28#.

If the '01 PCM has stock configuration, you'll want to either have it reprogrammed or just swap in a set of '01-04 28# injectors.

It will probably run OK, but not the same. Even if you change to 28# injectors, it's programmed for the different cam of 2001+, which has overlap to compensate for no EGR. And there are a bunch of tables (like, knock sensor tables) that are different for no obvious reason.

NO because of the reluctor sensor. most 98-99 are 58x gray sensor and newer ls1 was 24x black sensor. Check yours out its on the rear passenger side of the block.

Incorrect. 58x didn't even exist during the years of F-body production.

Unless it's a super-secret GM project, it did not leave the assembly line w/ a 58x crank sensor wheel in it.

Well I was gonna take a 2001 and have a tuner dyno tune my car for the 99 motor that I have...which I am guessing is very possible.

Just curious though... I am gonna guess on this one...none of you have ever done it?

I took an '82 car, put an '01 LS1 in it, then later changed the engine to an '02 LS6 cam & heads using the same PCM, then after that upgraded to 30# SVO injectors. I used LS1Edit and a repository of stock binaries, plus Greg Banish's DVD for the SVO injector data. Close enough?

You don't necessarily need tuning if you're using a factory '99 engine, just somebody with EFILive/HPTuner/LS1Edit and a '99 factory binary to strip out the right tables and paste into the '01 PCM config.
