Thinking of going to earl scheib for a new paint job. My TA is white and I wanna go black. I did most of the prep work myself and was interested in how their work comes out. Anybody have any pics of their black f-bodies? Thanks alot

Damn didn't know they were still in business, remember when their paint job was $29.95. lol In painting it all depends on the skill level of the guy painting the car. Then what can YOU live with. I had maaco paint my aftermarket hood and it looks decent.

you get what you pay for.. expect overspray and lots of it. its just like MAACO and since you are getting everything repainted (door jambs, ect) it will probably not be very good

Yes you for sure get what you pay for, honest im sure you could paint a car better than some of those guys,it will be pretty much spray and pray all over, alot of the cost with paint is labor and prep, if you do the prep you can find a decent painter to spray it with out paying a huge amount of money, honest though i feel going to a color change is going to cost you alot no matter where you go,now if ya keep it white you would save alot of money, buddy do it right the first time, like i said with all the prep done you can find someone reasonable to shoot the car,but a full out color change cost more period, good luck

I remember my dad telling me he took a yellow 72 vega to earl scheib in the late 70s for some rust repair and paint touch up. They painted right over the rust lol.

I've seen that car in person, it's no joke. I like it.

If not Earl Scheib or Macco, then what other shops you guys recommend for a good price? I don't really wanna spend more than $1000. Thought about spraying it myself but i figured Earl Scheib would do a better job

Saw that car on the interwebz a long time ago.. thought it was pretty cool, but the thought of intentionally sanding to bare metal on a brand new car for surface rust still blows my mind.

Why would you wanna go with black? I would rather have a white car than a black one. I know mine is black but silver, white & NBM were at the top of my lists. IMO white looks better & easier to keep clean doesnt show dust nearly as much as black. Nothing looks better than black when cleaned up & the paint almost always matches perfect if a repaint is needed but its more work. I would sell it & buy a black one, unless you totally gut the car & do a rotisserie a color change never looks good.

Well, that was my laugh for the day. Can you get a decent paint job anywhere for $1k (including prep)?

last I checked Painting was an Art, all depends on the skill of the painter.

The quick answer to your question is no, you can not get a quality paint job ANYWHERE for under a grand. Exception being if either you know somebody that paints and they do it for cheap/free, or if you spray it yourself.

I would just set up a makeshift booth and paint it yourself. That way you gain experience, the equiptment needed, etc. If it doesn't turn out well, you can just sand it down and start again.

Like previously state, quality paint jobs are 90% prep.
