I have a Whinning noise coming from the bell housing area. Not sure what it is. It doesn't change when you put in the clutch or put in gear or anything. Most loud at idle and just off idle, higher RPMs you can't hear it as much. Follows engine speed, not drive train. Almost sounds like a power steering whine, but its not. Any ideas?

Is Whinning a combination of whining and winning?
And no, I have nothing productive to add. :)

I had a whine when slipping the clutch off idle and occasionally when down-shifting at higher RPM, but just during engagement though. The lining got destroyed on the disc and I replaced the entire assembly with LS7 parts, except I retained the same slave (already LS7). I no longer have the whine. I'd guess that there is a problem with the PP or disc. If you have a stock flywheel, I've heard and seen pics of these coming loose or coming apart. Unfortunately, the only way to really know what's going on is to drop the trans and inspect the parts.

Pilot bearing? Although I've never heard of those going bad often

Yes... I would guess pilot bearing as well. Throw out bearing would only make noise when the pedal is out and would go away as soon as u step on the clutch pedal. Pilot bearing is something that would make noise constantly like that. However, it is rare that they go bad. My old car had 120k on it when I replaced the stock clutch and we didn't have the little tool to pull the old pilot bearing out. Didn't have time to wait to replace it cause i needed the car back together so I left it in there. My buddy owns the car now with 130k on it and no issues but I'd be willing to bet that's what it is in your case.
