Default what is the best heads package for the money?

hey everyone im doing a 355ci engine build
the short block consist of:
flat top with 2 valve releafs +5cc Probe forged floating pistons

5.7 eagle H beams

stock polished crank and Arp 2 bolt main stud kit.

The cam i am using is LE1 largest emissons friendly cam. and elecric water pump and double roller timing chain. and i have 1.6 roller rockers.

the heads i have are the 374 heads but both are cracked in the middle water jacket head bolt passage. since that is kinda common i just want to buy new heads and not deal with sorting a good core out for porting. i was going to buy trick flows 185cc heads has anyone bought and ran these? if so how is the performance of these heads TFS-30400008-M54

thanks

A good set of cores can be had as cheap as 200$. I would get some cores and have them ported.

I would look at the 21* tfs heads if you need a new casting. Great small chamber head out of the box that won't kill your CR.

I am planning on doing a set of the 21 degree Trickflow's from AI this winter with a single plane. Only person I trust anymore on heads and cam is Phil at AI. Lloyd is great but I can't dis count what AI has done for the boat.

Ya ive got my AI TFS 21* heads getting put on a lil 355 now. Cant argue with the results they put out. Would be cool if the would get a program for a big afr head for strokers.

You high? The ai or le tfs heads are ported out past 200. Gregrob has some on his street 355. You can even run a bigger head and a streetable cam and be even faster. Sure more cubes helps. Ill have the 212's on my 355 soon with a small cam and i bet it will "want" them.

Yea, those heads are ported past 200ccs...and ai themselves dont even suggest them for a baby cammed 355. Gregrob isn't running an LE1 emissions cam and is not your typical 355, so his combo is a more valid choice for a bigger head.

The OP clearly wants a street car, not a drag setup that needs to spin to the computers limits to make power.

The 200cc AI ported stockers are already overkill, to suggest 210+CC heads for his combo is rediculous. A small cammed, small cube SBC needs a cylinder head with velocity, not volume.

So, no, I am not "high".

Thats funny AI suggested me a 228/234 is small streetable cam. He asked for the best bang for the buck and i guess that is relitive. As 200 being overkill i have a friend that d/d's a 200 cc a.i. h/c on a stock 350 and it is fine. I bet his le1 cam just has less lift than my cam.

^^^
On a different scale my LPE heads were ported over 200cc's. Bolting those to the stock engine with a stock cam increased power dramatically and had a 6mph increase through the traps. Those same heads are now on my 396 supporting power over 7000rpm.

Soiyou guys really think porting 21* tfs heads will be worth the money on a baby cammed emissions 355? .

RRR, you may say you have gotten 6mph porting heads while still using the stock cam (which is already bullshit, porting heads on stock cam won't make anywhere near that much power unless your before run was in summer and after in negative DA), but what do you think the increase would be over out of the box 21* tfs heads??? 1.5mph??? Yea, that's really worth the money on a street car that sounds like it will rarely if ever hit the track .

PS: half my posts are from my cell, what's so ridiculous about editing for spelling???

O I c what u did thar

I have no reason to lie. Car did 13.9's to 14.1's at 99 to 100mph stock at Texas Motorplex. Put the heads on with 1.6 rockers and 1 5/8" Edelbrock shorties going through stock dual cat y-pipe and car did 13.2 @ 106 for a best. Put the LPE 211 cam in and did 12.6 @ 110mph. Don't know what the gains would be with tfs heads, but if the guy wants to do more mods that require more air down the road he won't have to bother with porting. A 200cc head will do just fine on a stock cid engine.

I updated from AI 190s to AI 200s on a DD 355. Its street manners are mild enough that both of my daughters have driven the car to school (back when they were in High school) Mike

To the OP for the $$$$ AI is second to none. Phil and Ron have always treated me well. IMO the right tuner can tame a monster and give it great street manners.

Really dude?

Been there, done that. If you think a 210+ CC head is a good choice for a car with an emissions cam on a 355 with a 7k rpm limit then you are beyond help.

GL with your 212s on a 355, hope you have the cam and computer to spin 7500.
