Default knock retard

I was out driving around with freescan hooked up yesterday and at one point i was up to about 5* of knock retard.. how bad is that hurting me? and if thats pretty bad what can i do to lower it? I think my roller rockers are contributing to that number quite a bit. and i was running 89 octane .. we dont have anything above that avaliable in my little dump of a town

The title of this thread reminds me of what I used to tell my buddies when they would barge right in to my place.

Do a WOT run going through all gears and see what you get.

do you have the LT4 knock module installed? use 93 octane if you can.. 5* is a fair amount of knock and that will pull a few degrees of timing. you can always zero out the knock sensor in the ECU

What temperature is it outside? 89 + hot weather = pulled timing.

Roller rockers can cause the knock module to think you're getting detonation.
