I know it's a little early for this but just wanted to put it out there because rooms do sell out pretty fast as the date draws closer.
It might be best to call instead of booking online because I believe that the dates are blocked out (for this event) on their website and you might not be able to book it even though rooms might still be available.
We stayed here last year and it's a really nice (and almost brand new) hotel, especially at the discounted rate. Only 11 miles or so from the track too.
Hampton Inn & Suites Indianapolis-Airport
9020 Hatfield Dr.
Indianapolis, IN 46231

Special Instructions: Ask for NMCA rate.
If it's already full/booked up then there's also the Hilton Garden Inn right next door (practically on the same property) as well:

Their are a few hotels in brownsburg, right off 74, which is a direct shot to 465,
Their are few hotels in avon off of 36, near 900E, that puts you extremely close to the track as well,
Avon, and Brownsburg, both very nice towns, great people, and safe. All withing a very short distance from the track. Ronald Reagan Pwkwy takes you damn near right next to the track now from 36/rockville rd.
Look forward to seeing you all in Indy this year again! Had a blast last year.

Their are few hotels in avon off of 36, near 900E, that puts you extremely close to the track as wellTrue, I'd looked into staying at a few of them as some are only about 4-5 miles (a few in Brownsburg at least) from the track. But the nicer ones are actually the same price or even more money per night as the much nicer/newer (and discounted rate) host hotel/Hampton Inn where all of the NMCA staff and many racers will be staying, why not be where all of the action is? :D
Plus Hampton Inn is a sponsor of the race and I think even has a booth set up in the Manufacturer's Midway right at the track as well so it's good to support them.

I've heard that the host hotel might be all booked up already but it's still worth giving them a call if you still want to stay there for this event just in case.
Last minute cancellations are quite common and again, what it says online does not always correspond with what is actually available as far a vacancies go.
And remember, if the Hampton Inn is in fact fully booked, you can still try the Hilton Garden Inn right next door (practically on the same property) as well:

make sure you call the Hampton during the day. I called at night and they told me they were full. Called the next day and talked to Angel if i remember correctly and she had rooms set aside for us to reserve at the special rate,,if its not Angel just ask to speak with the person that deals with the large group block off stuff, just sayin they may be full but i would still try this. And last year the Hilton next door honored the rates for us,,not saying they will this year but they did last year.

Early on I tried to book it online and their website showed no vacancies available for the weekend of the Shootout...but a direct phone call to them showed otherwise and I got a room.
Be sure to let them know that you're seeking rooms for the NMCA race at Indianapolis Raceway Park/O'Reilly Raceway Park.
And there are always cancellations that will open up some rooms as well.

The hampton was actually working with them last year. I would just call during the day and ask to talk to someone that deals with the special event reservations!! cant hurt anything!!

Hope to see you guys there!!True, I don't recall seeing any hotel security cars cruising the lot (there might be cameras though) but it's not a bad or unsafe area at all. And yes it is a dead end with the only things on this road being the Hampton Inn and the Hilton Gardens (both very nice hotels and built within only the last 3 years I believe).

And no real room for trailers right? It would be a little tight but there is some room for them either in the back or even along a curb.
Worse case scenario would be to park them over in the Hilton's lot (they have a little more room) and just walk across to Hampton Inn.
I think most people go to the track first, unhook their trailers and then just drive the tow vehicle to/from the hotel each day. Only those sleeping over the very first and/or the night after the racing has ended actually have their trailer with them at the hotel.
But you know that particular part already as you've done it over 30+ times LOL. :D
