Paint & Body Work - New z06 rims. Should I paint black or sand/polish to chrome?

bought some z06 rims recently. previous owner painted them a gunmetal grey color with rattle can wheel paint. i dont like the grey.

so i'm trying to decide between..
all gloss black
all satin black
gloss black inner rim with thin brushed lips
gloss black inner rim with thick brushed lips
sand and polish whole rim to a chrome finish
sand and give the whole rim a brushed/machined look

did some sanding, no polish applied. pretty sure i can make these look like chrome easily.

will be going on the car thats pictured. car will be colorado red (bright red basically)..
black roof most likely, not sure. thought of doing a red/black theme.. so maybe satin black Freedom Design wing, gloss black roof, gloss black mirrors, t-tops.

I vote any option that doesnt include black, no offense to your cobra but I never was a fan of black spoke wheels with or without a polished lip. to me you lose the spokes on a black wheel. If you want black I say brush or polish the faces and lips and paint black in between the spokes.

Honestly I don't think black rims look good on anything other that a black car. Even then, painting rims black completely hides the look of the rim. I would say either of your last 2 choices would look the best. JMHO

I like the yellow. I wanted to do mine bronze, but I can't remove the fake rivets so I gave up lol.

I've always thought that chrome rims are a timeless, classy enhancement to just about any vehicle, F-bodies in particular. If you, or someone you know, has access to Photoshop, you may consider reviewing some CG mock-ups to help you decide what you think is best for your car. I wish you good luck!

whats the easiest way to strip the paint off of these down to the aluminum?

sanding is getting to be too hard.

I bought some C5 ZO6 De Lemans polished wheels late last year. After thinking about powder-coating them I figured they will look better and more original if I polished the hell outta them.

I think you should just polish them to a mirror finish.

On a side note, does anyone know if these wheels come with a clearcoat over the polish to seal up the poors or are they bare?

Pictures of the carnage. A layer of paint over powdercoat was no match for the aircraft stripper coupled with lots of SOS pads and plastic razor blades (and many hours):

Almost finished in this picture:

I will post some pictures of the wheels on the car after lunch. I put them on last night. The faces are machined but the lip and in between the spokes is regular aluminum.. I think that they look much better now.

nice. i need to just do that. then i'll use sandpaper and polish to make it shinier.

i noticed walmart has paint remover in a spray can now.. should work on this stuff too. aircraft cleaner probably works better?

From what I read, the aircraft stuff works best. It is less effective in a spray can and generics are at the bottom of the list. It's some strong stuff.

I will paint the center caps another day.. These took forever to do but were worth it. Need to be sanded a little and polished.
