my car wont stay in reverse i recently bought a 95 z28 it is a six speed manual. it will not stay in reverse you have to hold it there and it occasionally comes out of reverse and grinds gears. is there a way to adjust this so it stops happening?

sounds like it may have a shift fork problem. i don't know about the 6 speeds but a lot of truck trans have nylon bushing on the tip of the shift forks that cause a similar problem.

Mine is the same way, i just put it into 4th or 6th then into reverse and hold it there. but i am interested to know if theres a fix but i doubt it. One thing i would check is the shifter bushing, its a white plastic bushing that sits under the shifter. just remove the shift ****, CAREFULLY remove the shift boot, then theres four 13mm bolts that hold down the shifter remove those and remove the shifter and you should see the bushing.

I had the same problem a about 3 years ago.It was constantly popping out of reverse and you'd better no park on a hill lol. I just sent it off to Tick performance and haven't had a problem since. Been shifting @ 6500 for 3 yrs now and havent had a single issue.
