Just a friendly run to see how my Cobalt would stack up against a bone-stock 6-speed Vette at high altitude. In the dig race I get out on him by about 3 cars before I shut down around 110mph. In the roll race I get about 4 or 5 cars on him and shut down at around 115mph. Hopefully going to run again if the Vette does some mods.

- CHEVYCOBALTSS3 Full E85 Tune @ 25psi (tapers to ~20 @ redline)
- ZZP 3" Catless Downpipe
- ZZP Bolt-In FMIC
- Hahn CAI
- ZZP Rotated Trans Mounts
- Driver mod (except shifting 1st to 2nd, no NLS -- too scared to break tranny)
Street tires, stock everything else.

Not surprising given the altitude. Nice kill.

Nicely done. Have to love what a few bolt-ons, E85, and added boost will do to a factory turbo car

Man I wish I had the slobalt when I lived in CO.
My cammed hugger ran 13.3 there
And I wana hear more about the rotated mounts.
NLS 1-2 is damn near impossible stock FTL.

these tc's are starting to grow on me, I'm thinking of picking one up as the new daily driver in a few months, put my cobalt back to the turbo'd fire breathing monster it once was.

The rotated trans mounts are stiffer and also correct the stock CV shaft alignment angle that causes wheelhop that leads to broken axles. My car WILL NOT wheelhop since I installed the mounts -- it used to before and I'd have to let out to avoid breaking shit.
And NLS 1-2 was easy when I was GMS1. It got hard when I got tuned because it's hard to time it with the tires spinning. I've done it once and it works, but I'm not testing my luck.

I always seemed to pass the rev spot or spin on the 1-2 damnit.
I never ever miss the rest.
And I hear ya on hop.
I can join the hydrolics crew at the drag strip

Nice runs, your car is fast! We race at around 7,000ft down here at my local track and I can barely squeeze out a 13.7 @107mph. How much is E85 per gallon?

13's is really fast at that altitude. I only did mid 14's on a bone stock 2000 T/A @ 5000ft and low 14's on a pullied/cammed/intercooled GTP.

It's like $3.22/gal here. I'm going back this Friday with some minor changes to the setup -- shooting for somewhere around a 12.7-12.9. If I can retain my trap speed and drop my 60ft down from a 2.1 to a 1.9 or even a 2.0, I've got 12's in the bag. :D Not bad for a gay 4-door rental car with a couple intake/exhaust mods and a tune.
DA at the track this Friday evening should hopefully cooperate and drop below the 8000ft mark as it cools down. Crossing my fingers.

e85 is a beautiful thing providing you have a station near by. Hugger1975 needs to switch to the corn sauce some day.
OP, are you on stock fuel system or did you upgrade any of that when you converter over to e85?

100% bone stock fuel system. The LNF uses GMs SIDI Direct Injection fuel system which uses a lift pump in the tank and a mechanical high pressure fuel pump and injectors much like a diesel. The stock fuel system supports about 400whp on E85 and a little over 450whp on pump gas before you have to either stroke the pump with a larger fuel pump lobe on the camshaft or add a 5th injector setup. So unless I goto a larger turbo, I won't have any fuel system woes.

What does your fuel economy look like after the switch? Mine is shit, but slightly better than a srt8 jeep. Lol

It's terrible... about 18mpg city and 22mpg highway. Used to be ~23mpg city and a little over 30mpg highway on 93 octane. The power increase is worth it though. That and premium is about $3.70/gal here right now, so it costs roughly the same per mile to run E85.

No offense, but can that guy in the vette drive? As much as I respect modded cobalts, there is something wrong here.

do you not understand how much 8600 DA will effect a NA engine? the Cobalt has a Huge advantage being FI and using e85. he trapped 110 mph in 8600 DA. DA corrected would be roughly 12.47@115 MPH
if a stock NA car ran the exact 13.1 his corrected DA time would be 11.58@122

Ive just seen so many people at the track who make these Vette's look bad. A good driver makes a HUGE difference w/ these cars. Just my experience.

:werd: N/A cars lose 2-3% percent of their hp for every thousand feet of elevation.

Depends on how its tuned for the ethanol and whether or not you're running full on e85, which IMO, isnt necessary with DI to take full advantage of the knock suppression. I found that my car was fastest running a mix of 25-30 percent E and 87 octane :D
Car runs hard though buddy! Nice work.

Could always have built a 2.2 or 2.4. ZZP makes a nice turbo set-up for the 2.4

It does suck. My T/A traps 106-107mph at 6800ft and in Sacramento at near sea level (800-1200ft) I trap 113mph and 114mph at close to 0 DA. At 6800ft I'm at the top of third through the traps and at sea level I'm deep into fourth at the end of the quarter.
