I am trying to get an idea of a typical race weight for a fourth gen. Looking for some input from the lighter guys...trying to find out how light you can make one.

You should really be looking at car weight because drivers can very over 100lb. My car can be as little as 3000lb(still complete w/ ac, cruise, all seats looks like a normal f-body) and I weigh 160.

under 2700lbs race ready without driver.
Depends on what you want to do with the car. I have seen weights from 3600 to 2800 with driver. There is a lot of good info on here reguarding weight reduction if you spend lots of time searching and reading every post on the subject.
Currently my car is sitting at 2900 lbs without driver. I'm shooting for 2700-2750.

2680 last year 2850ish with driver. Since then switched to slick over radials, swapped the posi for a spool, ditched factory fans for slimfan. But also added n2o bottle and a fullsize battery in the rear.

Getting to 3100# raceweight is fairly easy. After that it becomes more of how much $$$ you want to spend and of course the time and effort.

What is the easy way to get it to 3100lbs? I need to start trimming the fat on my car.

How did you manage such a low weight while keeping everything?

Lots of little this's and thats ;). To look at the car you would think it was full weight or near full weight. Still has inner bumpers, windshield washer tank, abs and sound deadening.

Im not sure where my weight is at but all that I have removed from the car will go towards my goal race weight of sub-3300lbs...that's with a iron block, turbo (a2w) and cage (8.50 for now but maybe a 25.5 in the future) I'd imagine a na/n2o setup can really get down there in the sub-3k lb range, good luck!

I have my trans am down to 2925 with me in it and I'm 210lbs. Single kirkey seat, Vfn pin on Hood, strange brakes, madman rack, speedglass f&r, minitubs, th350, 12 bolt with a spool, and hardtop conversion.
I pulled just about everything listed in the weight reduction sticky out of the car. I still have functioning headlights, door bars, and a horn for now.
Up front I have a UMI kmember with PA control arms. All the rear stuff is from Madman except the BMR drag bar.

thats light! how much did you end up saving by going w/ rear drag brakes and steering rack? i still have factory steering rack, column, and rear brakes. ive been considering doing the door panels and a few other things. i have ttops too and i hate them, but the 6liter conversion targa top is soo much money.

It has been a few years, so I don't remember exactly how much the brakes saved. I did all four corners at the same time and I believe it was 110-120lbs all together. This is using Strange brakes with the Racecraft front spindle that use the third gen brakes and the Racecraft manual master cylinder. Switching from power to manual steering is around 25lbs savings when you include the pump and lines.
I still have the factory door panels and steering column. All interior plastics and center console are in the car as well. I have some Ozite carpet to put in but I'm waiting to upgrade from a MS 6 point to a CM 10 point before installing it. The 2925 was with no carpet in the car.
I went to a junk yard and cut a hardtop roof panel from a 96 Camaro. I was tired of the paint bubbling on my sail panel and figured if I was going to go through the hassle of swapping it I should delete the t-tops. I used the roof panel, the door seals, and cut the metal that runs at the top edge of the door opening from the Camaro.

Thanks 5.3Jimmy - my car has same weight reduction as you pretty much, last year 2680 w/o me in it, this year maybe about the same w/ new n2o stuff. I'll probably do door panels, wiring harness, front radiator support and front strut towers and some more trimming over the winter.

These low weights make me sick! I just weighed in for the first time at 3950 car weight... That was with the Drag wheels, skinnies and only 1 seat.
Daily Driver w/some weight reduction, Full cage, sub-frame con, 9" ford, 4L80E, Iron block, 50lb 91mm turbo, air/water intercooler ect... Heavy Heavy Heavy!
I think I might be able to get it down to 3700-3800 fairly easy, but beyond that is gonna cost some serious $$

Lose the iron block, that's 100 lbs right there.. next time the motor's getting freshened up swap to an alum block... 4l80 is about the heaviest trans you can put in the car, so unless you really need the overdrive, I'd put a 2 speed in it and be done there, that will pull another 100 lbs out.
Alum center section for the rear end, that would save a good 40 plus. You have alot of weight you can get rid of easily if you're willing to do some parts swapping, etc. Cheap no, but there's plenty there.
I'm now looking ar 2800 with me in it, with an iron block bbc. Pic's in my rebuild thread, if you want to see what that will take.
