Exploring the back yard we found this poking out of the ground. I'm trying to get to the block pad to grab some numbers. What do you think it is?

No Idea
someone else just said it's a smogger so it's probably worthless. :(

I can't drag it out so I'm going to have to take it apart to get it up the hill. I'll look up the head #'s when I do that..

Venerable Small Block Chevy 3970010 should be a 350, most were 4 bolt main with that casting number. Two barrel and EGR puts it up to 74-ish. Still has the AC compressor bracket going off to the left....

In 40 years that will be an LS1 in a yard somewhere.....

Im thinking I just bury it again. LOL. Doesn't seem like it's worth trying to get out of there.

Looks like this casting which is one of the most produced Gen 1 motors in history. The 4" bore block that came with 2 bolt or 4 bolt mains produced in 1969 through 1979. I would leave it where it's at. Seems to be the only thing holding that tree up.

I dont think An lS1 would look like that in 30+ years

hopefully someone sees what I did there..

Cool Find thought! Just digging in the back yard? Burying something / someone?

That is called scrap metal. Lol. It is the most common 2 bolt SBC available. Plain and simple.

I'm with Zone. Looks to be a 73 or earlier, has a point distributor in it.

I think GM started to put EGR on in 72, but not really sure so don't quote me.
