Exclamation Can i run a 6-7 sec 1/4 mile for $5000 with a 2002 Trans Am

I have $15000 set aside for my new Trans am that i just picked up. I sold my ls2 camaro to a buddy for $15000. i picked up the Trans am for cheap because it is a 6 cylinder and a little beat up. I am wanting to drop in a ls1 and upgrade it and put a Modular turbo kit on it. i already have the modular turbo kit picked out. i am getting the f2 tt kit, the big dog, that puts out anywhere between 900-1400hp. thats gonna cost me around $10000. so what i want is to know is what heads, camshaft, intake maniflod, pistons, crankshaft, etc that i need to get a 6-7 sec Trans Am for the $5000 that i have left over. Any thoughts?

If you mean 1/8th mile, $5k will definitely do it...

If you mean the full quarter, not a chance with only 5k. Hell you would spend $5k just on the billet crankshaft you need to handle the kind of power you need for a 6 second car.

So let me get this straight, you plan on making 900-1400 hp on a stock ls1? Goodluck bro. Youll blow the motor quicker than you made this retarded thread. Youll need way more than $5000 just for forged internals and a built rear to handle all that power. Keep dreaming..

i think you would be better off getting a junkyard 5.3 motor, boosting the hell out of it with some methonal injection and spend all your money on supsension and wheels. All the power in the world wont get you down the track if you cant hook. Might need to throw some spray ontop of it too. It wont be reliable but it will be fast for a couple runs lol!

for right now all i have is $15000 and i already ordered my f2 tt kit from modular turbos. the other $5000 is what i want to spend on the heads and what ever i can for the time being. the car is not running right now and already have a daily driver so this is a project. i dont expect this to be completly done in a couple of weeks. i thought of it as a project for the next 4 years. yes 4 years. im not rich but i just got my tax return and i expect to spend at least $10000 a year on it for the next 4 years. This is going to be a very fast street strip car as well as a show car. Im not expecting to drive this car for at least 2 years. its a project and going to be a very nice one.

First problem is you picke up a v6 trans am. Trans ams don't come with a v6 (except the super rare turbo v6 trans am from 80's) you my sir bought a firebird.

Second you need about 12000- 15000 for the motor besides the turbo kit to make the power you want, without breaking everything inside..

Third I smell a forum troll.

Not like it is gonna be reliable, but Hot Rod Magazine made something like 1200HP on a stock 4.8 short block without blowing it up. Junkyard 5.3 with a cam and a big turbo, on race gas, would make enough power for eights in a relatively heavy car. I do think, however, that you are smoking crack with sixes my friend. Remember small details like a rear end, a rear suspension, a cage, a transmission, might cost a few dollars as well.
