General LSX Automobile Discussion - Need to vent about my red ta braking down

I keep my red 98 ta in the garage all year just drive it on nice weekends in summer. So it's summer and I wanted to take it for a drive. Put the lights on, gear in motor breaks. Change the gear, headlight connector corroded and falls apart. Get new connector. As I'm closing the hood, one of the hood shocks separates from to of hood. I connect it back but it still makes a squeezing noise every time I lower the hood. I thought I was ok and every thin fixed. Hood stop breakers. Replace it. Now battery won't hold a charge. It's sears diehard gold. I bought it about 4 years ago. Tomorow I will buy new battery. I have had this car from 2004. Bought it with 56k. Now it has 68k. This June every thing is just breaking :(

that sucks man. just bad luck it sounds like. is your hood factory? my friend swapped his factory metal hood for an aftermarket fiberglass hood and the hood shocks were too strong and broke the hood. just wondering if that could have happened to you.

its ok, you 'll froget all about it once you get it out the garage and hear the exhaust entering the highway!

I got an aftermarket hood, and i took the hood shocks off just in case. If you want them, let me know.

a car that sits without a battery tender will drain.

I put about 500 miles every summer. I start it every month and let it warmup and drive 10 miles as long as its not snowing.

I have another trans am 2000 I use more often. About 2000 mi a year

just get a good battery from any parts store with a good warranty. don't get the cheapo's though, they don't last. i wouldn't worry about a light weight battery unless your serious about racing. you'll never notice the weight difference.

The battery in the car now is diehard gold. I think it was over $150. I have never owned a battery that lasted more then 5 years. My other trans am has the cheapest battery from sears. It was $50. Two years and it hasn't failed me. I think I'll get the some one at 1/3 the price.

Our cars are indeed getting old and things start to break. Your low mileage will permit you to keep the car for years and years to come but you will be putting $$ into it. My T/A just reached 30,000 miles and I try to keep everything stock right down to the A/C Delco battery which usually lasts me 5 years. I bought my last one for about $130. I have one in my '87 SS too. Very pleased.

I'm a fan of Optima Red Tops. Had mine for about 7-8 years now with no problems. You can buy them at most part stores.
