Come on... thats part of the fun..... most everyone has to drive home after..... Was a 2940 miles for me this yr. My brother and I drove to Detroit to just drive back on power tour... 21 hrs straight.
It was my 1st and Ill be doing it again. Looks like 2730 miles for me this year.
Its 1073 miles straight back. One thing to think about is what about all the west coast people who will NEVER get a power Tour out there. Hot Rod's already said its to far between cities to do one on the wesy coast.
One of the guys we talked to drove his 64 chevy PU from LA to each start and did the long haul. Were talking 2200 miles to just get there.... and it was FL the yr before. I think he said he got 9mpg. Im pretty sure u get mid 20's.
Im already planning. The Goat will prob get 14mpg avg so about $1000 in fuel alone.
I know we had a blast and I plan on bringing my son next year. Hes turning 5 and loves cars.
Anyone who hasnt done it your missing out :)

I averaged like 26 this year over the 2000 miles we did, with a lot of playing :D We had a group of 11 cars and 18 people leave from northern Wisconsin, and most of them wouldn't even think about driving 1000 miles one way to get to an event ha. Guessing we will go on a different trip as there are some much closer to home than the Power Tour will be.

Wow! That was fast!
If that last day's driving route includes the Tail of the Dragon in Eastern Tennessee/Western North Carolina (which is pretty much on the way from Chattanooga to Charlotte) its gonna be really hard for me to pass up.
The wife and I considered going out of our way when we were headed to Cocoa Beach for the 2011 HRPT to drive on this famous stretch of road. Ultimately we decided against it so we wouldn't be pressed for time, but ever since its been on my bucket list.
Take a look at this link and tell me that wouldn't be a perfect stretch of highway for the Power Tour Route...

^^^^ As a group no it would suck with that many cars on that road and you know atleast one person would screw up and back it up for the rest. Now to hit it up on your way back home hell yeah!!!!:chug:

The route from chattanooga to Charlotte is 316 straight freeway. Vid tail if the dragon it's only 342. So 24 more miles. I hope they do that. I've always wanted to do it also.

Nah. Just as long as they have flagger allowing a handful of cars at a time (like they've done at a number of small town intersections on previous Power Tour Routes), the flow of traffic into the Tail would be controlled and allow for an enjoyable driving experience. :drive:

You're absolutely right. Leaving early would still be a wise idea.

I'll be there next year, I've missed the last 3 because of work, (I'd have to first be in the U.S. to participate. It's a great time, I long hauled in '09 from deep south Texas to Wisconsin for the kick-off. It's something that once you do once, your hooked!
I grew up in Chattanooga so I'll get to visit family/friends during next years tour, which just sweetens the deal!

I'm pumped. 2013 will be our 3rd long haul. It got a little sketchy this year when my clutch slave exploded in Miami, OK but we made it to Arlington starting the car in first and floating gears all the way home. My dad asked if I wanted to call it quits but I told him "Its Power Tour, dang it, we're doing this thing!"
See ya'll next summer.

If you haven't been to deals gap or aka the tail of the dragon, you don't know what you are missing our on. But be prepared that is the most difficult piece of pavement that I have ever been on. I was there on a gsxr 750. I have been on lots of race tracks there don't make you concentrate nearly as much. But what a great time. NO AC in my ride so this power tour will be out for me.

I was born in Ohio, but part of my family is from Robbinsville, just on the NC side of the "Tail of the Dragon". We used to drive to visit relatives all the time and we had to cross the mountains on 129 to get there. Forget the Tail of the Dragon...to me its "Puke Mountain". I almost can't believe how its turned into a tourist attraction, sure is a far cry from my childhood riding in a full size conversion van with the family dreading the curves!

I may and try to do this one, It's on my bucket list. Not sure if I'll have the 67 LS1 camaro reliable enough by then, but the Trans Am makes a great back up plan. I did the Tail of the Dragon in March after a VIR event. My friend and I had the whole road to ourselves in the morning! I went back and forth so many times I had to quit because I ran out of gas! It's one of the best driving roads in the country!

I'm planning to do the long haul since the route is good for me. I live near Memphis so I'll be able to take a bath and do my laundry about mid-way.
I've got my hotel reservations and can't wait. :usa:

We live in Southern Ohio and will be picking up the tour in Memphis and all the way to Charlotte. Six of us taking 3 cars, 57 Chevy, 70 Chevy C10 and an 84 with LS1. Great times for all, the Tour should be on every gearheads bucket list. The C10 was in Hot Rod Magazine, the one that hit the deer, back again this year with a new paint job and a few new body parts. "Tour On".

I'm in for the Long Haul this year...right at 2900 miles for me. 6th PT, 2nd Long Haul. I think we are are taking my newly purchased '91 T/A for it's final journey before going under the knife for the 6L swap...so no smokey burnouts for me this year.

I'm still unsure how far I'm going this yr. did the long haul last year and had a blast. My brothers 1st baby's due the end of may, first part of June. We will see as it gets closer. Ill still prob purchase my long hauler combo and wait and see.
I'll be heading on the Long Haul again this year, but with a twist. I have been to Birmingham AL before and don't really have a desire to stop by again. So our group is actually taking the Power Tour all the way to Memphis and then the following day instead of going to Birmingham, we are going to detour to Bowling Green Kentucky to see the Corvette Museum and the Plant Tour. After the day in Bowling Green Kentucky, we plan on catching back up with the tour in Chattanooga, TN. Adn regardless of the tour route, we will go through the Tail of the Dragon going to NC (Charlotte). Can't wait to see how the z06 does heading down that stretch of road.

The only problem with that is how are you going to your your lanyard stamped? If you don't have each stop you can't do the Long Hauler event on the last day.

Last year we actually long hauled also from Detroit to Dallas. We met a group of 8 guys who just so happened to stay at the very same hotel as us at each stop. I actually already spoke to them and they are staying again this year in the same hotels as us. They have already gracefully agreed to take our punch cards to get them puched in exchange for some ice cold Texas beer. Didn't seem like too bad of a trade off
