Question Tuner question: Do you allow 4l60's to shift into 4th @ WOT?

I am curious if you PCM tuners on here allow automatic 4l60e cars to be allowed to shift into 4th gear (OD) under WOT. High speed.... Said car has a semi-built up transmission.

Thank you for your input.

Sure why not. Same as 6th gear in any ls1 car. Aerodynamic drag will eventually overcome horsepower and you will reach max vehicle speed. 175 in a lt1 imp ss has been done several times at bonneville.

Wide open throttle in an overdriven gear? I wouldn't, but if the transmission is 'built' talk to the builder and see what they say.

I think I tuned one car that faced this possibility (A4 + 4.10 gear). I allowed the WOT shift to happen to 4th - but I added in a bunch of torque management to try and protect the trans. Never had an issue come back from that car's owner.

It depends on the build of the car and trans as well as the inteded reason for doing sutch. But I always warn everyone this symple fact, there is no bullet proof 4L60 trans out there. The 4L60 is just one week peice. It will brake, the question is when. If the car is over 600hp I advise my customers to look into the 4L80 swap if they want an OD trans.

This is what I would do. If my car tried to shift in to 4th as hard as it does 1-2 (or 2-3 for that matter) I wouldn't expect it to last more than 3 shifts.
