Default Help me ID this oil pan please

I put an add on craigslist for a "Camaro LS1 oil pan". A guy responds with "I have a complete oil pan, windage, pick up tube and bolts for camaro of crate motor like new"

I buy it.

I get it and open it up and this is what I see.

It looks a LOT like a corvette pan but it isnt. It clearly isnt new and the windage tray looks like it was modified. The guy says it came like that form the factory. Now he wants me to ship it back to him on my dime because he sayd he shipped me what I asked for. Just because it fits a LS1 does not mean it is the camaro pan I am after. It has dirty oil in the bottom that wasnt cleaned out. If I was looking for a corvette pan I would be content but a camaro pan will fit my application much better.

Link to oil pans
http://nookandtranny.com/Info_LSx.php#LSXOilPan

The only numbers I can get off the pan itself are.
12566211B
9-29-95

Nothing else has a number.

So what the heck is it really off of?

Is not a Gen 4 F-Body. .I looked for some pictures of the 5th gen.. and it doesn't look like that either. Has more of a profile of a Vette pan. Very shallow and long rear sump area.

found a for sale post on a 5th gen pan.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/parts-cla...3-oil-pan.html

and it doesn't look like the one you got.

The GTO pans are Front Sump.. the picture above is rear sump.

The lower pan has the oil level sensor on the other side as compared to the above pan and the oil bypass is on a different angle. don't think so.. (?)

I've searched you a$$ and before I sell this I want to know what it is so the buyer doesn't have to deal with what I currently am. I've never seen another one exactly like it. If you have some useful info chime in, otherwise, you're not helping.

I wasnt looking for responses from people who would quickly look at the picture and say "it might be this". I am capable of comparing it to LS2 & LS3 pans and the pictures show it isn't those.

k..
Now I've been told from the seller it is off a "97-98 all aluminum ls1 crate engine".
I believe that is probably what it is. A pan very similar to a corvette pan.

Well, there were no 97' F-bodys.. only LS1's in 97' were the Vettes. IIRC 97-98 were Bat wing pans (?). Wondering if this was one of the Down Under Aussie engines.

I agree it is not a F body. That is exactly why I want to sell it. He said it was from a crate engine, he just didnt tell me the year until this morning. I imagine GM came up with this pan in 97 or 98 to sell the LS1 crate engine without the funky shaped corvette pan. It probably is from 97 or 98 and the pans have undergone a few changes since then. Thats why this one looks different and I couldnt pinpoint it exactly.

I am probably not going to use it. I really think the camaro would fit better. This is for a LY6 in a jeep wrangler. I am running the exhaust around the front of the pan and the camaro pan gives about 1.5" more room for that. I had the jeep running last year with the truck pan. Now I have the jeep otrn down for suspension/frame build and wanted to change a few things including this pan.

I'm sure it will bolt up. I didn't try it. I don't see why it wouldn't. I will put it for sale as a 97-98 LS crate engine oil pan.

It is going in this.
