Default new timing chain with new cam?

hey guys, i was wondering if you have to replace the timing chain on the motor when doing a cam swap? is it mandatory or just optional? TIA <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

How many miles are on your stock chain? I only had 5K on mine when I did the cam so I saw no reason to replace it.

I did my head/cam swap with about 25,000 miles and could advance/retard the cam at least 1 or 2 degrees just with the slack in the factory chain (checked this before I removed anything....). Get the double roller from sdpc2000.com. Its will last forever and you can advance/retard the cam with the keyways in the crank sprocket.
