Default Edelbroke Torque Arm...

Who has tried the edelbroke torque arm and any luck with it? It seems like a good deal for $169 although its not adjustable.

I know the adustable is for setting pinion angle, but if a car is not lowered is the adjustment still needed?

I have it. To me its a tad stronger than stock. The only reason I use it is because I got it for free. If I were you, I'd go with an adjustable TA with a seperate crossmember. That way you can adjust your pinion angle.

I use the Edelbrock and it works out really nicely if you don't need to adjust the pinion angle for being lowered... it's a great piece for the money!

I heard it was a nice piece from others...
How about the poly tranny mount they supply, does it seem work good. Can you use others with the torque arm too? Like the energy suspension

It comes with a poly torque arm mount, not a tranny mount... and the poly torque arm mount it comes with is the very same Energy Suspension mount that people buy separately.

I just put on in a couple weeks ago, no complaints thus far. No track results or anything though. Install was pretty easy, and the unit at least is stronger than stock, and half the price of most others. Though it isn't adjustable...

I love mine. Lot better than the stock one. And for the price it can't be beat. The only reason I would not get it is if you plan on putting MAJOR power to the ground, as there are bigger and stronger ones out there.

Worked great on my SS.. removed the last little bit of wheel hop I had in the car. Very well made and very stout.. I only paid $140 on GP for it

If you dont need to set pinion the I say go for it.. even came with a poly mount

Thats what I meant...poly mount, not the tranny mount

So when you say get you stronger one, do you mean the contruction and the way the edelbroke is built isnt any good? Like upgrade into chrome moly? I was just looking at the BMR and the G2, the BMR is made from .120 tubing and the G2 is .095, I am assuming the edelbroke is at least that snd there designs are some what similar.

Just wanted to see what you meant by stronger, I could understand if there design was no good. Just looking for some opinions

Hard to screw up the design of a torque arm... the design is pretty much universal when it comes to ones that use the stock mounting location.

I think the only reason you would need a stronger one would be if you were wanting to put down some serious power... like 10 second 1/4 miles and gobs of rwhp.

I assumed the exact same thing...there design looks good...I mean unless they have crappy welds are something in that nature I dont see why it wouldnt be great for a steet machine.

If I were running 10's I would look into a chrome moly version and most likely do some research to see whats best out there.

This is going on a 89 Firebird, not lowered, thats why I thought about the non-adjustable version.

The Edelbrock is definitely a quality piece for the money and there aren't any crappy welds on it... I expect something from Edelbrock to be made well, if nothing else. Here's a pic of mine compared to the stocker:

I like the way it looks...I think I might go with it for the price. Thanks for the pic and info!

I found it in Jegs, I think thats prob just as good as any to buy from.

Just an FYI Edelbrock is releasing an adjustable version of their torque arm, the price on Summit's website is $199.99. Sort of new to this so I'm going to try and post a picture of it, if doesn't work you can go to Pace Perfromance and type in part #ED5282.

It looks too wimpy to me. I'd spend an extra 100 bucks and get a BMR or Spohn

I had the Edelbrock and on a street tire or drag radial car , it is fine. Put slicks or ET Streets on and it is time for the BMR. I broke my Edelbrock leaving at 6000 rpms and pulling only 1.65 60 ft's. on ET Streets. THe plates where it bolts to the rear is not thick enough and the bolt rips right through it. THat will not happen on the BMR I just bought. 3/8 thick steel.
