Exhaust is a really subjective topic, I would suggest LS1sounds.com and Youtube to help you decide.

even with youtube its hard to tell on sounds. best bet is to actually hear it in person and talk to them about it.

Hooker is QUITE. I run SLP LM1. that and BORLA sound the best IMO

I kinda put together my own lil kit. I bought the SLP kit and just threw away the LM1 muffler. I bought a dynomax resonator and have never looked back since. Mind you the Kooks Kit is nice but rather pricey.
Anyways here is is before bolt ons and cam

I forgot about the GMMG. A guy in town has one and it does sound good. But I still think SLP LM1 or the BORLA is the way to go

GMMG or Corsa hands down, depending on your budget of course

Everything from a power stick, sweet thunder, bullet, magnaflow oval, xr1, lm1, lm2, 1 chamber, etc etc has been swapped onto those setups. He basically has a TSP Rumbler catback now.

^^^ this i know... But I think it's a shame to toss a LM1 for Dynomax. Just my opinion

I'd ditch the LM1 as well, especially for a Dynomax bullet, which I'm sure is what he means by resonator.

Either Lm1 or GMMG with stock manis

Hooker is quite what? LM1 is trash. Raspy as hell, but Borla is pretty good.

^^^ I meant Quiet. Hooker is quiet. What is herp derp?

I know what you meant. My Aerochamber isn't too quiet. Pretty loud when accelerating actually. The only time it's quiet is when it's idling when warm.
I use "herp derp" when I think someone says something retarded. I was referring to the other post.

Thanks for the feedback im leaning toward a gmmg they sound really good im gonna look for an x pipe as well any good brands?.Im from canada an theres no performance close to me so looks like ill be paying hefty shipping fees

You mean y pipe?, if your not going with headers, there is no reason to change your y pipe.
sepsis
07-02-2012, 02:06 AM
If you go with a GMMG, you won't be able to use an X pipe.
With a GMMG, you'll need a Y pipe. If you want to do true dual, then you'll need the x.
and what BWW said.

oh i thought i could use a x pipe. i guess i need a new y pipe than i basically just want to get rid of the cats an get some new pipe from the manifolds back

The exhaust system on our cars goes from the manifolds into a Y pipe (single pipe) and into a cross-flow muffler with dual tips.
If you want to get rid of the cats, just go ahead and get headers. Then if you want, you can use a x and make a true dual system with a pair of bullet style mufflers and dump it before the axle.

x2 on the headers. Headers, off-road Y, and GMMG gets my vote for you.

Ya if your going to ditch the cats just run sum LTs and ORY. get sum good gains

Sounds like you're set on the GMMG.
FWIW, I like my Magnaflow alot. It osunds great, but nice and mellow till youget on it. Cruising o nthe highway is as quiet as stock, but it sounds much better pulling away from a stop.
And IMO a K&N is a waste of money. There's no real benefit to them, they just have a good marketing dept. If you aa reuseable filter, go with the one from Amsoil. It'll filter better, and you don't have to mess with oiling it.

GMMG, no questions about it. Run it into a 6LE CME and the sound quality can't be touched. Just my .02

Got GMMG on my 00 Z28. Had flowmaster and hooker before that. Heard Borla on several friend's LSXs and like it a lot, but I won't get anything but GMMG for myself now that I've had it. If I couldn't get GMMG because zombies destroyed the warehouse....then Borla.

If you are just throwing in a catback and no headers go with Loudmouth..
If you plan on running longtube headers... DUALS DUMPED BABY!! ONLY WAY TO GO!!!

If you plan on leaving the stock manifolds/cats forever then go lm1. If you want headers in the foreseeable future then magnaflow or borla.

Actually thats not true, modding a GMMG to accept an x is rather simple. OP you can get the GMMG and cut off the merge that happens over the axle. So cut right where the pipe splits from 1 3 inch into dual 2.5 inch pipes. Then you have 2 bends welded on to go over the axle and down to the stick i pipe location. Take an ORY of your choice, cut off the merge, weld on a 3 inch x pipe. Connect the pipes and you are done

That's the set up I have on my 00 Z28 and love it so much I'm bringing it over to my 02 SS. LTs to ORY to GMMG. It's awesome.

Yea, but that's already modifying something to fit where it wasn't designed to. So, to use a GMMG PROPERLY, you need a Y.
Who the hell wants to chop up a $700 catback anyways?

Corsa would be a good choice, kooks too but kinda pricey. These will give a good sound with stock manifolds, loudmouth too.

yes i did toss the LM1 for the dynomax. it sounds so much better to me than it did. i had slp lm1 on my goat too, and i regretted it. plus i dont like having the same shit as everyone else if i dont have to. i am sure others have dynomax , but not as many. alot of my f body buddies have flows, thrush, hushpower, magnaflow, you name it, and mine still sounds among the wickedest. the only thing id trade it for is the kooks true dual stainless kit.

I would all day, because when you think about it an ORY is what $150? The 2.5 x pipe is another $40 tops. So with labor you are looking at around $1100 tops to splice in the x and connect that to the catback, so you now have a 2.5 inch TD over the axle system. Id pay the extra $$ but thats just me

I would just run a custom dual to the back... Find a shop willing and patient enough to work with you... Bet it will be less than the GMMG mod to fit
