Carbureted LSX forum - Could this pinched O-ring on the oil pump pick up have caused a spun rod bearing?

While I was getting ready to put the engine back together I noticed the 0-ring had been pinched while it was put together before, not that it will fix anything, but I'm wondering if anybody thinks this may have been a contributing factor to the spun rod bearing? I was idling between 25 & 30 psi of oil pressure & most people I'v spoken with seem to think that oil pressure is what spins rod bearings. I posted some pics & was wondering what everyone else thinks?

The LQ4 I bought had no oil pressure...I had no clue why. New OP and still nothing.(done before I bought)

When I tore it down I found #3 cam bearing wiped....both the rods and mains looked factory fresh as well as the cylinders.
I'm sure the bottom end had good OP but was lost at the cam bearing.

IF that pinched O-ring was allowing air to get in....sure couldn't have helped.

I'll definitely be really careful when installing the new one!

Oil pressure is almost always what cause a spun bearing in Ls1s..

They make a girdle for them, why gm just used 1 bolt is beyond me. I used one on my 5.3, made me feel better anyway...They are on ebay too

A pic explaining

Some of the early truck tube girdles had a huge tack weld keeping you from using this girdle, so It may not work with early truck tubes is why brp says it wont work with truck version. Worked fine for my 04 5.3 though....

Quite possible. Even with fair to good oil pressure showing, it'll be frothy with air bubbles which do not help at all with lubrication.

Hey Snook, that thing looks pretty cool, but I couldnt find one locally, do you know if they have dealers? If not, I'll probably weld another ear on the opposite side, or just make a girdle. Either way, thanks for the info..good stuff!

I never worry about the factory tube setup. Have not had failure yet and I have done more swaps than most. If I was spinning above 7500 I would consider that little double mount.

I think you'll have to buy it direct from BRP.

Yeah, straight from brp. They did have them on the ebay brp website, but not on there now. Its probably not needed, just reassurance though. Maybe put a dab of oil on the new oring too, so it seats easier.
