LS4 Performance - Shifter stuck in park on 06 MonteSS

Hello all! Well pulled the Monte in my parents driveway to drop off some things so I left the car running. When I jumped back in I found that the shifter was stuck in park and would not budge. I remembered the manual saying something about it so I walked to my house up the road only to have the manual say pull car backwards to unlock transaxle brake.

I went ahead and just pulled the cup holder and hit the release button under console and have been driving it like this.

What I have read is that the wires inside the shifter buttons get pulled out on our LS4 gen cars but I have not verified this. I also manually unhooked the brake pedal module thing from the pedal linkage and tried moving that around while my father tried turning key with no luck.

Any one else have suggestions?

Thanks!!!

When you parked the car, was it facing uphill? I have this issue occasionally when parking in my driveway. It seems like it happens when I put it in park and release the brake quickly. The car rolls back just a bit (less then an inch), but that seems to make it very difficult to move it out of park.

If I release the brake a bit more gradually, I don't have this problem at all. Also, it has never happened on level ground. Hope this helps!

I was facing a slight downhill, also I can hit the release button under the console on shifter handle and it will come out of park perfect. I figured it would be the same thing your talking about but it still does it no matter where I park.

Tests/Procedures:
1. Access the solenoid on the shifter.

2. Press and release the shifter while listening for the solenoid to move.

3. If it does not, Test for 12 volts on the Dark Green/White wire in terminal B at the solenoid with the brake applied.

4. Test for ground on the Black wire in terminal A.

5. If ok, the solenoid is defective.

common issue is wiring at shift solinoid broken. replace connector

I'm sure you have a broken wire at the connector on the side of the shifter. We see it all the time.
