Well fellas,
Car is about to be out of the shop from getting the new bumper cover and EC cowl hood painted and installed. I have some H&R's sitting here in the box and i ordered the brakemotive rotor and pad kit this morning so i can do the drop and the brakes all at one time. Exhaust is also top priority upon coming out of paint. Anyway, I'm currently running OBX 1 7/8 with no cats, magnaflow x-pipe and muffler delete. All stock piping. Sounds sick at idle with the cam but just too obnoxious while driving so i'm putting mufflers back on it.

I have both a complete low mile magnaflow catback sitting here in the garage as well as a pair of corsa sport mufflers and tips that were cut from a GTO catback. They are the exact same mufflers and tips that come on our CTS-V corsa catback.

Looking for opinions since i'm so indecisive!!! lol

Should i run the complete magnaflow system and get rid of all of the stock piping??

Or... should I have the exhaust shop just weld the corsa sport mufflers and tips into that stock piping since i already have the magnaflow x-pipe installed anyway???

I think i prefer the corsa sound a little more than the magnaflow sound but both sound great! I'd go corsa if i had the complete system. I'm just unsure if there is any benefit to getting rid of all the stock piping for the nicer magnaflow piping or if it would even make a difference??

I'm pretty sure the stock piping is all mandrel bent. I don't think you'd see any gains because of piping. While the muffler transitions may be a little smoother on the magnaflow kit, it's really just a preference on muffler.
I like magnaflows a lot, but I've heard they drone.

I think it is too but with the cuts and welds that have already been made for the x pipe and that will need to be done for the corsa mufflers, i just wasnt sure if i'd benefit from running the magnaflow that would be all nice and smooth and flawless.

I love the sound of both in different ways. Just slightly leaning toward the corsa for their distinctive sound and the fact that they dont drone but can't make up my mind 100%. lol Hence why i wanted you guys to give your opinions.

Honestly, I don't think it matters THAT much. If you're going to be going catless, then your car will emit a whole bunch of high-frequency content that sounds awful.

Muffler selection, on the other hand, will make a HUGE difference in how the car sounds. I assume you know how an unmodified Magnaflow catback sounds. If so, take a look at this video (Magnaflow 16636 + Flowmaster Super 44 = uncharacteristic metal bucket sound):

Catless cars can still sound just as good or even better than catted IMO. Louder yes but still just as deep. All just depends on the mufflers u use. I've run catless on almost every vehicle I've had.

I've seen that clip. It's not magnaflow and flowmaster 44's together. He had the magnaflow catback and cut the magnaflow mufflers out to replace them with the flowmasters.

The Corsa sound is just plain nasty. It spits and snarls. The Magnaflow is a nice smooth glasspack sound, which is still quite good.

I'd go with Corsa 100%, but I was annoyed that the pipes fit so closely to everything. They tended to bang around as they were fractions of an inch from the sway bar, driveshaft, and differential case. The Magnaflow hangs "under" the car and isn't close to anything, but it also doesn't tuck into the body cavity for the exhaust.

I had Magnaflow on my V, if I could do it again i'd pick Corsa.

Sounds like corsa will most likely be the route I go. And wife I'm having them welded in, I can get the exhaust shop to tuck everything where I want it so there are no clearance issues.

I agree magnaflow sounds good though. Just two different tones. Both are nice systems so it made it a tough choice... Lol

Really happy with my Magnaflow.

I really like both but I think the edge goes to corsa. Just has that slightly more nasty tone especially with the cam, headers and no cats. And the no drone will be a bonus.

Go corsa dont look back! There's no meaningful gains from switching to the magnaflow's. Plus the corsa's are just plain sick sounding!

I have 3inch b&b and my buddy has a corsa on his v. Truth be told I'd take the corsa any day or any exhaust

Good to hear! I was actually looking for a used 3" b&b system but didn't have any luck. Fell onto these corsa mufflers and tips and shortly after, had the opportunity to grab the complete magnaflow system so I did just to give myself some time to decide between the two. I've always liked the corsa. I'm just indecisive! Lol

The magnaflow sounds great on my car with stock manifolds. No drone whatsoever. Of course you guys running headers, thats a whole different story. Good luck with all that noise. C'mon man, this is supposed to be a luxury sedan!;)

They both sound good in their own way. Magnaflow is deeper. Corsa is just plain raw. I personally like that vicious ass sound. Lol

go magnaflow, I'm running pacesetters through a magnaflow cat back and it sounds good. Highway rumble isn't bad either. Corsa is specifically made with a full emissions getup in place, doesn't sound right without it.

NeverSatisfied02
07-04-2012, 01:49 PM
The only thing the corsa comes with that I won't have are those resonators with the little h-pipe crossover. Thing is... They usually end up rattling giving u that dreaded "corsa rattle" so people usually replace the resonators completely with the magnaflow x-pipe which is what I'd already have. No emissions stuff comes with the corsa.

I will say I think I like the magnaflow tips better than the corsa tips. Both are nice but the magnaflows look a little bigger because they don't have as much of an angled slash to them.

regarding the emissions statement i meant that when corsa designed these specific cat backs they did it with stock manifolds and cats in mind. Not for use with catless headers erego the sometimes poor sound you get out of corsa's when running them in the manner you want to.

NeverSatisfied02
07-04-2012, 02:58 PM
Oh ok. I completely understand now. That was my main concern with running them. Catless, no resonators, etc makes it A LOT louder than initially intended.

But considering what I'm running no with no mufflers at all, it can't get any worse. Lol

UPDATE***

So I went and had the corsa mufflers installed. Running OBX 1-7/8, catless, magnaflow x pipe and corsa sport mufflers now. Love the sound and the lack of drone but kinda miss being able to hear more of the exhaust while driving. It seems rather tame to me at idle and just cruising around but at WOT or anything over 3k, it screams! Maybe I think this because I'm used to no mufflers at all so anything would be quieter than that. Lol standing behind the car, it's loud and the cam sounds good but inside the car, I can hardly hear it. Most would like that but I kinda miss hearing the noise. Call me crazy... I know. Lol maybe I need to just have someone drive the car for me so I can hear it on the outside. I'm sure it's probably much different than what I'm hearing inside the car while driving it.

Anyway, I'm not saying I'm not satisfied with the corsa but now I'm curious if the magnaflow catback i have would have been louder. Im also considering a used B&B 3" system I found.

Wish I could install them all, hear them all and then decide but that would be a lot of wasted time and money. And considering I'm running headers, I don't wanna go cutting up the catbacks to fit my car and then not like it and have to sell it modified... Which is why I figured I'd give the corsa mufflers a shot first before anything else.

I like my setup. Long tubes into High flows then magnaflow. Sublte but not OVERLY loud.

Both those vids of the magnaflow sound good!!

Biggie,

I'm attempting to go the route you took. So my questions is which HFC did you go with and which Magnaflow (Part #)? I'm assuming that there is an X-pipe as well? Or is the X-pipe, part of the Magnaflow muffer?

X-pipe is part of the catback. Only thing you'd need are the headers and high flow cats.

I ordered my Long tubes from MDspeed and got them coated and with Kooks HFCs.

With HFC connections to factory(requires welding FYI and CUTTING).

And I went Coated.

I want some cutouts for sure so i suppose whatever catback i decide on doesn't need to be obnoxious loud.

Im going to load some clips of my corsa soon. Sounds nice. GF loves it but im undecided. Its just a little higher pitched than im used to. I admit... It sounds nasty at WOT and cruising around and even had that nice choppy pop at idle with the cam. It doesn't drone at all which is a major bonus but it just doesn't have that low grunt my other exhausts have had in the past. At WOT, its just wide open screaming. lol
