If I am looking for a replacement motor, which Gm vehicles can I look for, I found a 2002 Tahoe, is that the same motor? I am told all I have to change is the pick up tube and oil pan, Is this correct? what other models have the same LS1 motor.

What are you putting the engine into? That would help to decide what other LS engines would be a direct drop-in or require changes.

Basically every performance-based vehicle from GM since '97 & all light truck-based GM vehicles since '99 all had LS-based engines as an option.

Yes trucks have LS based engines... But they are NOT LS1/LS6 engines like what you are looking for... Although the LQ9 engines built can out perform LS1 engines they are not the same as LS1/6. These motors are aluminum. Truck motors are iron.

Junkyards can hook you up with a 6.0 liter truck block for a good price. Or Scoggey Dickenss has a nice budget built ls1 short block wqith forged internals.

If you ever plan on doing turbo look into a 5.3 truck block. People practically give those away.

Or, if youre wanting to ever build a big cube motor do it now. There is generally a 2-300 dollar difference between price for shortblocks.

But if Your just wanting a decent build. a 6.0 truck block with heads and cam will do you well. However, a truck block is going to weight about 70 pounds more.

There are tons of options for you, just decide on your price point and go from there. If you want just a stock replacement, look into a Thompson Motorsport block they do alot of budget friendly combos that I'm sure would be in the price range you need.

All good.. yeah I find a lot of websites with bad info unfortunately. :bang: I usually hit up 5 or 6 sites just to make sure they all line up and even that doesn't guarantee the info. :chug:

my tri cycle has an ls1. just find a 5.3 truck motor and put it in instead. they seem to be holding up alot better than the ls1's. i blew mine up as well as several other people. anything above 550rwhp seems to really take em on out.

Scoggin, no looking back. Just get a new forged block and forget the stock stuff. You will be better off in the long run.

hell why not a world block, or erl, rhs, hahaha.

seriously.....we all know the 5.3 is prob one of the biggest bangs for the buck. if you blow it....you can prob buy two more for $700-$800 dollars.
