Too many miles?
I just want to get some of your opinions on this..
Do you believe 62k miles is a lot for an LS1? If you were looking to buy a used LS1, and it had that many miles, would you settle for it, or continue to look for lower miles? Just a simple opinion question.

It's actually just the engine/trans..not the entire car.
I was thinking of asking what kind of things go bad on an engine/trans/accessories with that many miles..but I could most likely find that with a search. So I just wanted to know if you all thought if that is a lot miles..

Mine has 90000 and runs perfect. I guess you could say I settled for a car with higher mileage, but with the money i saved i could buy a new shortblock or build a bulletproof tranny. Besides, 62k isn't even high mileage for an ls1. Hell, Rob Raymer made like 760 rwhp or something on a stock 100,000 mile engine.

mileage means little depending on how the mileage was accumulated. Lotsa track time or all city driving usually is far more abuseful than long freeway stretches. Maintenance also plays a big role. There was a lexus one of those fugly ones with the droptop, apparently the owner brought it in for its first service at like 20K miles, tires all screwed up (no rotation), no oil change per break-in, blah blah.
Very well a 62K well cared for, never wrecked, never raced (ie non ls1 tech member lol), perfectly maintained car could be in better shape than the off-lease car that was a saturday night special with the hose on it and 1/3 the mileage. werd.
Age however can be consistent in wear on things like rubber parts (Suspension). Cars that sit all the time don't fair much better than car's that drive in that respect. But we're talking more like 98 when things start getting crusty than say a 2001-2002

LS1`s really start running sweet at around 50K on up to 100K.
I have an 01 SS w/69K and it will pull 12.9`s all day on street tires with basic free-mods.
Just make sure you get a 01-02 as they are the best of the F-Bod LS1`s

Well, as long as you have the engine and trans out, take them apart and check. Replace gaskets and look for something wrong - other than that, it's probably good to go.
Cheers!

And really look over the car and make sure it was really taken care of. I would rather a have a really good taken care of LS1 with high mileage than an LS1 that wasn't taken care of.
Usually the overall appearence of the car can give you an idea if the car was taken care of or not.
Good luck 2 ya!

be careful the 02's are generally priced too high (unless you get a deal) because they think they have something special. If you're gonna do all the cam/boltson/heads, the o2's have nothing other than a 35th year plaque over the older cars which have alot cheaper price tags.
Man if i had thought about it i would have just put the hose on a 02 and leased it. Lol. Send it back tore up from the floor up. Nice wet shot 150 to keep it real 36 months later i'd have a 15K mile return to GM smoking like crack head. "dunno musta been something to do with piston slap".
heh.
