General Maintenance & Repairs - Security light stays on and car won't turn over

Every so often when my car wont turn over I notice the security light stays on even when i take the key out of the ignition. Then when it does decide to start the light will not be on. Where should i start? Thanks

The FIRST thing you do is make sure the key is clean. Sounds dumb, but I've seen a dirty key cause theft issues.
